Every effort should be made to discourage young people from taking up the hab t. There is considerable pressure on teen-ager- s to smoke, and whether or not they resist depends a lot on the example set by their parents It has been shown that in the majority of families where parents dont smoke, neither do the youngsters. If you have been a smoker, will it do any good to stop now? Yes, for the same studies show that people who gave up smoking had a lower death rate from heart attack than persistent smokers. Actually the death rate of those who stopped smoking was nearly as low as that of people who had never smoked. Also, some of the abnormal changes In lung tissue of heavy smokers gradually reverted toward normal As far as is known, smoking pipes or cigars Involves no increased risk of heart attack, probably because the smoke in most cases Is not inhaled. Utah is the fourth state to take part in a Home Fallout Protection Survey. An earlier survey In Minnesota has resulted in returns of approximately 86 per cent of questionnaires mailed out. Governor Rampton, who requested the survey in Utah, urged all people in Utah who receive the questionnaire to fill it in and return it to the Bureau of Census. The Governor pointed out that no charge will accrue to of Utah, its communities, or to respondents who subState the mit questionnaires. Discussing the current survey. Governor Rampton stated: "There simply is not enough public fallout shelters in Utah for all of our citizens in the event of nuclear attack. Also, some of the public fallout shelter space is not well located in terms of where people live, work, or for other factors. "Defense Department studies show that a significant amount of fallout protection frequently can be found in home basements. About 62 per cent of the homes in Utah have basements. "For these reasons, it makes good sense lo conduct a Home Fallout Protection Survey in Utah. I strongly urge every person who receives a questionnaire to complete it and return it promptly to the Bureau of Census." In certain areas of the State, the questionnaires will be brought to the household by enumerators instead of by mail. Generally speaking, Provo, Orem, Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Logan will be covered by mail. All other areas will be BLM Land urmf 10 ihUSSS H. Morrison, Mt.
