He had been with a group of 61 church and Boy Scout members of the LDS Church which had finished a boat trip down the Colorado River and had been left behind when he strayed from the group, after coming out of the river to waiting trucks. Died Of Exposure A detailed search was made for the lost boy following his disappearance, but was given up after several days last June when it appeared that he had fallen into the Colorado River. There is very little water in the rugged area near the Crossing of the Fathers where he was lost and the lapse of nearly a years time had erased any details of how long the boy may have survived before dying of apparent exposure and thirst. Following the recovery of the remains by the Kane County posse, memorial services were conducted in Salt Lake City this week for the boy. g Governor Hopeful Wins Sell Lake nilking Contest William A. (Bill) Barlocker, Democratic candidate for Governor of Utah and Mayor of St George .has won the first contest farm for the State's important vote. Combining what he remembers from his youth around Southern Utah farms with a firm grip developed by months of vigorous campaigning, Mayor Barlocker proved milkinest governor to be the candidate of them all last week when he won a milking contest from three Democratic opponents and four Republican hopefuls. The contest was held at Derks Field i n Salt Lake City as a prelude to Salt Lake Bee baseball game and as a feature of Dairy Night' honoring Utahs dairy industry. Mr. Barlocker, who doubles as one of the worlds largest turkey producers, showed that he hasnt limited his chores to feeding poultry. He handily defeated five and two other city slickers farm boys". After the event Mayor Barlock er was awarded an oppropriate trophy. Llcnday nesting Lists In A meeting held Monday evening in the Courthouse to discuss use of the money raised at the recent race meet here, was attended by som thirty members of the various clubs. Duff Pugh, member of the Ka nab Area Motion Picture' Assn., acted as chairman at-t-he meeting. Mr. Pugh said that some $900.-0- 0 was raised as a profit on the meet and that $250.00 more was in savings from a contribution last summer from Richard Boone who was making a TV series here. Discussion Monday night on the use of the money determined that a committee be set up with a mem ber from each club participating in the race meet, and that the com mittee budget the money for sprinkling sysem and to plant grass in the ball park, and use the balance as needed. Clark F. Swapp was named chairman for the committee. Each club is to appoint a member for the committee at their next regular meetings. Max Bruce, member of the Kanab American Legion, reported his findings on the cost of a sprinkling system which is to be turned over to the committee. , Discussion was held on using the baseball field for both Little League and Pony League. With six teams to be made up in Kanab next year it was explained that the schedule might not permit use of the field for both leagues. The matter is to be looked into further. At the present time both leagues are using the field. Progress On Huge Glen Canyon Dam 32-to- n rado River. Friday.
