Heaton residents of this area, now living In Kanab, are celebrating their Golden Wedding Vegas; $56,948 Under Engineer Est. life-lon- g Anniversary this Christmas week Friday, December 28th at their home with a family dinner. The couple were married In the SL George Temple, December 28, 1906. and resided at Arizona until moving to Kanab July 28,1951, where they have built a beautiful new home. Mr. Heaton is the son of Jonathan and Lucy Carroll Heaton. He was bom August 18, 1882 at Orderville, Utah. LaVema I. Heaton is the daughter of George and Alice Parker Isom. She was bom in Virgin City, Utah, December 21, 1885. Mr. Heaton has been engaged in the livestock business all of his life and is still active in this work. Both Mr. and Mrs. Heaton have always been active in Church activities. Mr. Heaton was presiding Elder of the Moccasin Branch for many years, and was a High Councilman for many years there. Mrs. Heaton has been active in Sunday School and Relief Society work. They have always been interested in education, Mrs. Heaton having been a teacher at the time the couple met. They have sent all eight of their children Moc-'casl- , to college. Mr. Heatons hobby is rais- ing flowers. He has always lov- ed beautiful flowers and grows them in abundance and beauty wherever he has lived. ' Honoring the couple at a family dinner will be their two sons and six daughters, and their families, which includes eighteen grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren, they are: Mr. and Mrs.. Ruland is serving in the Air Force for Uncle Sam and Is stationed in the Canal Zone. He has another year and half of duty in the service. Mr. Scott had resided in Kanab for a short time and was well known and liked here He passed away at his home in Arlington, California, December 21, 1956 following a heart attack. Industrial Construction Co., of Las Vegas, Nevada, submitted the lowest of 10 bids for the 9 miles of road west from the Arizona line toward Kanab. The bid was $785,081. The engineers estimate had been $842,030. Other bids that were opened ranged up to more than a million dolars. This stretch will be built to primary highway standards,' the hard surfaced road will be 36 feet wide, artd the contract requires completion within 240 working days. R. W. Griffin, Road Commission Chief Engineer, said that he anticipates that the contractor will be able to begin construction within about two weeks, and will very probably be able to work right on through the winter months. Chairman C. H. Vance said this week that bids for construction of the additional sections of the highway from Ka-- . nab are to be advertised in the near future, with 'the starting 9 miles east of Kanab to be the next bid advertised by the Commission. W. W. Clyde Co... Springvllle, Utah was second low on the bidding among the 10 companies, their figure being $805,031. The low bid by Industrial Construction Co., was $56,948 lower than the engineers estimate and will go back into funds to provide for future contracts that will be needed to finish this all important highway to the huge Glen Canyon Dam. two-lan- Vsn: 3 Resigns Coming Dimes Drive G. The Kane County Chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis organization is now complete and materials will soon be placed throughout the County so that contributions can be made, according to Ernest G. Kirby, County Chairman. Mrs. Zelda Boardman will continue as County treasurer. Mrs. Boardman has been treasurer for the past 15 years and much of the sussess of previous drives is due to her efficient services. Mrs. Edyth MacDonald will serve as County secretary. I am sure that everyone wants to give Merl a Vote of thanks for the time he has put in, without pay, to help to improve the conservation program in this district. 'I am sure too, that everyone will want to welcome Vard to his new Job, and will give him their whole hearted support.
