Everyone shown then everyone played volley ball, table tennis, basketball, jumped on the trampolin, and a few relaxed by just watching. Refresh-ments' were served and thanks to Mr; Don Dixon were heard, then all piled home and went to bed. HIGHLAND TS By Kathy Schwertz Christmas is truly in the air at Highland, expecially in the halls. Members of the board of control was conversing about what they did over the short vacation, and how much they enjoyed the Thanksgiving day. Congrats' 1 are in order to Melinda Haves. T-"" and student council have de-corated the two giant trees in the main foyers of the school. The Hi-Deb- s, Key Club, and other service clubs ' 'decked the halls with bows of first place winner from Olympus High, in the "I Speak for Demo-cracy" contest. In her speech, Melinda personified the flag of the United States, and concen-trated on the real meanings of the word "democracy." Melinda took 2nd place winner when her speech was judged for state honors, among many other speeches from city and county schools. holly" and other festive ornaments. The true spirit ofChristmas has been expressed by many organ-izations at Highland stepping in to help Santa Claus with needy families. Members of ns, Hi-Deb- s, Key Club, and Pep Club are work-ing diligently, collecting toys, food, and clothing for these families. Essays submitted by eleven creative writing students at Highland were selected by the National High School Essay Association for publication in their annual anthology of outstanding essays. Mrs. Caroline E. Miner, in- - structor of the creative writing ' class, expressed her pleasure at the selection, noting the fact that eight Highland students had their essays published last year. The winners are: Marcia Ballenger, Ray Bedingfield, Neil Chandler, Kristine Eberhard, Bill Goodfellow, Marilyn Gorder, Kathie Howell, Marie Neilson, Nancy Price, Eileen Segal, and Diane Weirauch. Thursday, Olympus High School was honored to have the BYU Chorus, from Brigham Young University, perform on an assembly. They sang many lovely numbers, and also had an accordion soloist, vocal duets and solos.' It was very much enjoyed. Friday began the process of registration for the second semester beginning in January. The school was on assembly schedule, and theassembly period was spent in the homerooms where students gathered their thoughts, on what subjects they wanted or needed to take the next half of the school year. This will be continued into next week and then turned over to the counselor's offices. Wednesday night, the Tennis Club had a social in the gym.
