Utah Thursday July 18, 1957 SOUTH EAST INDEPENDENT K 9 Butler Second Ward A Ward outing is being planned by the Butler Second Ward, and the big day Is Friday July 19 at Brighton. The MIA is furnishing the recreation which will consist 1 of baseball, volley ball and other j games. Food will be served hot dogs, watermelon, cake, etc, and will be fifty cents a plate. In charge of the outing is the build-ing committee, and the priesthood quorums are furnishing the food. The proceeds will go toward the building fund. New Gable To . Hawaii Hawaii and the mainland of the United States are scon to be linked by a 2.400 mile under-water able according to H. K. Richmond district manager of the Mountain States Telephone Company. The cable will be laid this summer from Point Arena, California to the island of Oahu. Twin submarine cables, cap-able of carrying 36 simultaneous conversations, will be laid by the cable ships Monarch and Ocean Layer. The off shore shallow portion of the cable was laid xast April. The deep-se-a phase of the project is scheduled to begin July 17, with the arrival of the Monarch 10 miles off Point Arena. The Monarch will lay 1,900 miles of cable and rendezvous with Ocean Layer near Hawaii. The Monarch will buoy the cable and sail for Honolulu. The Ocean Layer will pick up the buoyed cable and continue laying to Oahu. This procedure will be re-versed for laying of the second cable. Many Utah people will be ben- - Mother Daughter Nite-- at MIA. Planned for Thursday the 18th, is a Mothers-Daughte- rs night for the girls in the mutual de-partment of Butler 2nd Ward. The program Is under the di-rection of Marianne Etherington and Doris Jensen. It is being spon-eore- d by the teachers of the Young Ladies Mutual.
