James Cannon, Director of the Utah Department of Tourist Publicity, and former executive secretary of the Sugar House Chamber of Commerse, will give his talk, "Value of Tourists to Utah," which was interrupted two weeks ago with a "This Is Your Life show." The regular meeting will be held Wednesday ,July 17 at the Beau Brummel. Also present will be special guests, Miss Sugar House, lovely Linda Shingleton and the Days of '47 Queen, Doro-thy Pohlmen and two attendants. Paul L. Charlotte Sheffield ' Svelte, blonde, blue-eye- d Charlotte Sheffield, will repre-sent Utah at the Miss Universe contest in Long Beach, July 11 . to 21. i Miss Sheffield claimed the dia-- i dem in competition with 16 beautiful contestants. A popu-lar University of Utah student, I she is currently playing a part i in the summer festival produc-tion, "Song of Norway." The lovely queen has right-fully won many beauty contests and was a first-tim- e queen When chosen "Miss Sugar House" in 1954 and was later Days of '47 queen in 1955. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph A. Sheffield, 535 Twelfth East St. Richard L Evans Guest Speker At Rotary Charter Nite Richard L. Evans, immediate past district governor of Rotary, was guest speaker, and present-ed the charter to the .Murray Rotary Club Monday evening. Bruce J. Parsons, president of the new club which was spon-sored by the Sugar House Ro-tary, accepted the charter and gave the response. J. Gordon. Sorensen, immedi-ate past president of the Sugar House Rotary, presented the Murray club a brief case for the secretary-treasure- r, containing necessary materials for that of-fice. Sugar House Rotary was rep-resented by 30 members at the charter night program, and din-ner was held at the Murray Third and Ninth Ward meeting houses. Centennial Trekkers ' Plan Reunion A reunion of The Centennial Trekkers - Sons of Utah Pioneers who 10 years ago retraced the route of the pioneers across the plains to Utah, will be held Tuesday, Jnly 22, at Pioneer Village. One hundred men three women and two boys who made the trip 10 years ago in commemoration of the 1847 crossing will attend the reunion, 3000 Connor Street. President David O. McKay, Elder Spencer W. Kimball, Lowell Horton, Mayor ot Nauvoo.Ul., and Dr Marcus Bach of Iowa State University, will be special guests. An outdoor barbeque dinner will be served, a program of pioneer songs, and a prize for the best pioneer man and woman will highlight" the entertainment. Wendell Ashton will be master of ceremonies, and others assis-ting will be William E. Nelson, j Willard R. Smith, Harold H. Jensen and John Boud. S. House Chamber Sponsors Free Ssow More than 2,000 kids congre-gate in Sugar House each. Wed-nesday to attend a free show, paid for by Sugar House mer-chants. Many Sugar House merchants have a supply of tickets for ad-mittance to the South East The-atre on Wednesdays. The tickets are absolutely free and can be obtained in Sugar. House on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of each week. The tickets are good only the week in which they are issued. No purchase is required to re-ceive a ticket, but they are given only to adults. They may be used at the special Wednesday shows by anyone youngster, grown-u- p or grandpa. Special screenings begin at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. o Holladay Chapter of SUP Schedules Dinner Meet WW BWP"--'fw'- ' ................. Tlie newly elected officers of the Holladay Chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers are K. Grant Hale, president;. E. Sterling Smith, third vice president; John II. Haslam, second vice president; Wayne Shaw, Carl Commons,. Arden II. Curtis, John Trayner, directors; Roy Keys, treasurer, and Robert Tingcy, secretary. The Sons of Utah Pioneers have outlined a complete sched-ule of activities for the month of July, according to the announce-ment of Karl Hale, national sec-retary. A dinner meeting for mem-- Oi bers, wives and guests will be held Friday evening, July 12, at the museum village. T. Ed-gar Lyon will be guest speaker. The Pioneer Village will pre-sent a live TV show on Sunday, July 21, reviewing the pioneer story''- - Also shown wrill be the unveiling of the mural of the 1847 Nauvoo trek. A ceremony at Brighton, July 24th, will commemorate the 110th anniversary of receiving the news of the Johnston army's march from Ft. Kearney. Mr. Earl Smythe, 1343 Allen Park Drive, had a brief case with business papers taken from his car, and just down the street, Leonard B. Christopherson at 1411, had papers and an auto robe taken from his car. The papers taken were of no use to any one except the owners, and it seems that someone must have been hard up for amusement after the Fourth. Young Republicans Meet At Jeffery Home Organization of house districts for first voters and members of Young Republicans and a speakers program were outlined at a meeting of the Salt Lako County Young Republicans re-cently. .The group met at the home of Claire Jeffery, 2847 Nila Way, and members of all committees gave reports. Vahl Bodily, county chairman of the group took charge of the meeting. The next meeting will be held July 18th at the home of Hazel Parkinson, 265 D street. Travelers . . . Capt. Fred Lee of the sugar House Police Station is vacation-ing in Sacramento with his daughter and family. He will be gone two weeks. |
