Show - - Westminster Opens Grid Season Ticket Sale Friday Noon Westminster College, looking look-ing ahead to what it hopes will be a second consecutive unbeaten season and an unprecedented unpre-cedented bowl appearance, opens a drive Friday to sell Sugar House and South East merchants season tickets to its 1958 football games. Friday afternoon members of the Westminster chapter of Intercollegiate Knights will canvas area merchants hoping to sell one season ticket to each business. If the campaign is a success the Parsons will be over a big hurdle enroute to a bowl game in '59. The season tickets will sell for $5.00 and are good for six home games. This is a sports bargain of the top magnitude since the Parsons were one of the nation's unbeaten elevens last fall. In the 1957 season, coach Al Mercer's team won seven games and tied one. This year Mercer hopes to be even stronger and the team is out to avenge the tie at the hands of always-strong always-strong Colorado mines. Westminster will host Colorado Col-orado Mines on Oct. 4 this year. Last fall the Parsons reciev-ed reciev-ed a bid to a bowl game but school officials rejected it for financial reasons. This year, if Westminster goes unbeaten again, a bowl bid is almost a certainty and success of the season ticket sale could put the Parsons in a post-season classic. Westminster's 1958 home season will open Sept. 13 against again-st Malstorm Army Base. This game will be a night affair and played at West High School. The rest of the home games will be played in the afternoon at Dane Hansen Memorial Stadium Stad-ium on the Parson campus. Utah University will be out of town on each occasion and all games will be on Saturday afternoons. On Sept. 20 Oregon Tech is at Westminster; on Sept. 27 Eastern East-ern Montana is here; Oct. 4 Colorado School of Mines is here; Oct. 25 Western Montana is here for homecoming and on Nov. 7 Carroll College of Montana Mon-tana is here for Engineer's Day. That is a good home schedule. Colorado Mines appearance here will be the first time since the days of the old Rocky Moun- ' tain Conference when it used to tangle with the University of Utah. And followers of the Parsons should see some All-American preformances again this year. Last fall the Parsons' Dale Thibault was named Little AU-. AU-. .American halfback. This fall Doug Andreason is a good bet to win the same honor and the Parsons also have several other top' candidates for Ail-American honors including' lineman Larry Kirkes, Mitch Makris and backs Anderson, and John Rook. But much of the Parsons' success hinges on the sale of season tickets. Mercer, athletic director at the school, said Wednesday Wed-nesday that if each business house in the area bought one season ticket Friday, next fall's program would be a success. That isn't much to ask. The Intercollegiate Knights will be selling a good product when they call on you Friday. If the merchants huddle with the Parsons this entire area could be a winner next fall.
