ORCHARD DRIVE Ducks trapped this winter by Division of Fish and Game biologists will be wearing a new type of tag which will aid in following these birds to their nesting grounds. The new tags are a plastic material and are slipped over the head of the ducks, much like a collar. Three different bright colors are now in use at three trapping locations. These bright collar type tags will be visible at close range with the naked eye or can be seen at longer distances with binoculars or spotting scopes. As the birds are trapped with baited traps, metal leg bands are put on along with the new tags and then released. When they leave Utah marshlands and travel to their nesting grounds, their migration pattern can be followed, determining more exactly the nesting grounds of ducks spending the winter in our state. Banding programs are underway at Farmington Bay Water-fo- LocoMan- wl Management Area, motive Springs Waterfowl agement Area and Browns Park' Waterfowl Management Area. |
