Packer The Granite Park Stake Conference was highlighted by the presence of Elder Boyd K. Packer, assistant to the Council of Twelve. In his talk he suggested that the church members heed the counsel of the stake president and they and their families would receive the choice blessings reserved for faithfulness. He stated that there was a greater danger facing the people than they would face should a deadly poisonous Cobra turned loose In their midst. No nation or civilization that moves In the direction we are going can possibly survive. Unless we take emergency measures we will not survive. Crime, immorality, delinquency and other evils are upon us and unless we stand up and fight against them they will destroy us. President Brewer spoke of the sinful practice of Infidelity. The most precious thing In life is chastity and virtue. Tach children the truth. Keep them away from filthy movies, television shows must turn to the Lord for etc. We need a rebirth of spirituality, to receive the blessings available by righteous living. guidance Keep close together as a family. Recognize that any movie advertised for adults only" should not be viewed by God fearing people. The sacredness of the lholy law of marriage must be presented. PRESIDENT PLATT stated that what we need most In this day are people- willing to do more than they are asked to do. Clock watchers and clock punchers are setting poor examples for youth to follow. We need people with more inltltlve, ambition and determination. Our young people are Gods loved PRESIDENT WILDE said ones and need parents loving care and protection. Youth should take advantage of parents advice and counsel to ease their difficult problems. The Lord Is mindful of them and will sustain a united family. We have been without sweeping equipment for the last six months and the gutters are heavily loaded with dirt. elate the patience of the residents of the community. Golden Spike Centennial Limited 99 Leaves New York City May 2 Railroad enthusiasts wUl have what may be their final to travel over much chance of the U.S. behind an authentic steam engine May 3 when the Golden Spike Centennial excueslon train Limited leaves New York City. The special excursion train will turn back the pages of history to the rough and dusty pulls out of New York for the 15 day trip to Utah and back. The . trip is an exciting highlight in the year long observance the commenoratlng completion of the nations first transcontinental rail link at Promontory Summit, Utah. The cross country excursion will be run by a Lebanon, N. J. group appropriately named The High Iron Company. With the exception of the steam engine and necessary accompanying cars, the five coaches, twin unit diner, parlor-dom- e car, baggage cars, and obserall modern vation car are equipment. Each night during the cross country trip the train wUl stop at a major city and be opened for public Inspection. Visitors will be allowed the run of the entire train while passengers rest in local hotels. Along .with the engine and tenders, the train will feature a display in the baggage cars depicting the history of the American railroad industry. On May 3, the day of departure, the train will leave New York City and travel to Buffalo via the Penn Centrals Water L evel Route alongthe Hudson River to Albany, then west through the Mohawk Valley. Three days and more than a thousand miles later, the Golden Spike Centennial Limited Granite High Presents:" Gra mercy will cross segments of the historic Old WaDash Railroad over which the famous Wabash Cannonball operated. At Kansas City it will be coupled to the Union Pacific Railroads brand new Cen- tennial Class 6, 600 horse power Electro .Motive Diesel-electr- ic locomotive for the remainder of the trip west into Salt Lake City, arriving on May 9. Passengers, following ar- rival in Salt Lake City on May 9, will be given tickets for a seat on a special train from Salt Lake to Ogden, Utah behind the Union Pacific Railroads historic Steam Locomotive No. 8444. At Ogden, passengers will board buses for the last leg of the trip to Promontory Summit. Locomotive No. 8444 will also pull public excursion trains from Salt Lake City to Ogden May 10 - 14. Ghost i |
