A change of direction and emphasis is necessary to avoid this crisis and for this reason I have decided to seek the Republican nomination for the office of Governor of the State of Utah. "There is no question that we need to encourage the growth of industry in Utah. But I question that it can be done by merely trying to take in- dustry from other states. As Governor of this State, I would look first to improving the climate for growth of industry in the State. Utah's record of business failures clearly indicates the need for help in this area. Utah is a great State. The people of Utah are a great people. The potential for growth and development in this State is tremendous. My experience in business in this State convinces me that with the proper direction we can tap this potential. "With most Utahns, I am concerned with the encroachment of government in our lives, the high cost of supporting this government, the distrust of public officials, the increase of crime in our streets and parks, the pollution of our air. and the plight of our poverty stricken and minority groups. But at the same time, I have great faith in the ability of the people of this State and the Nation to conquer these problems, rather than be conquered by them. As Governor of the State of Utah, I would use the powers of that high office to deal with these problems and to help accomplish the desires of all of the people of this State. But I would do it with the admonition of Abraham Lincoln weU in mind; that is that government should do for a community of people whatever they need to have done, but See Buehner - Page 5 Mot tiers Day, Happy Time For Mom . .
