But the angel said unto them, fear not" for I bring you good tidings of great Joy which shall be to all people, for unto you is born, this day, in the city of David a Savior which is Christ the Lord. And there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly hosts praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest and cn earth peace and good will to men. This old, but hallowed story is ever new in awakening in the hearts of men throughout the world, in most countries, an ernest desire to give of their substance to relieve distress and hardship poverty and pain to those less fortunate and render a service to others that they too might receive in their hearts the true gift of the Christ Child. Wouldn't it be wonderful for nations of the world to take inventory now and realize that the glorious message of the Christ to all men was to unite under a banner of righteous living, that peace on earth and good will to all men might be realized in our day. We, of the South Salt Lake News, wish to express our heartfelt appreciation and thanks to each of you, our subscribers, our advertisers and supporters of the news for the past eight months. May the spirit of Christmas be in your hearts and in your homes this Yuletide Season, and may the New Year 1969 be one of Prosperity and Peace. Tapestry of Christmas Christmas in the United States is many tnings. It is remembrance ot the Child of Bethlehem. It is a time to give consideration to our purpose on earth to those less fortunate than we and renew our spiritual lives. Christmas is also family fun, crowded stores, gifts under the tree, wreaths, candles, bells, holly, mistletoe and good things to eat. It is childrens breathless anticipation, and it is quiet moments of peace. The tapestry of American Christmas is richly woven with threads of customs from every corner of the world. Because it celebrates the birth of Christ, we think of Christmas as going back nearly 2,000 years. Actually, the celebration, as we know it in the United States, is relatively new. As a legal holiday in all states, it dates from 1890. The first individual state recognized it in 1836. Christmas is truly a testimony to the brotherhood of man and the hope of eternal life for everyone, ...Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." Taxes of course From Our Readers Editor: Problem Solved Having read the Christmas traditions with the family, in last weeks news, I would like to tell you mine. When I was a child I always wondered why Santa brought some children what they wanted and not me. I am a Grandmother now. But through the years of raising my children I told them that mother and dad didnt have much money and that we had to pay Santa for everything he brought them. It really worked with my children, they were much happier if they didnt get all they asked for. - Mrs. Julius C. Record Indifferent Parents Editor: The other night I gave a ride home to several girl ball players. When two of the girls got out they said. Thanks' and closed the door easily. But the other girl just slammed the door hard enough to loosen the window so that it now rattles. When I called the girls mother, she was indifferent and said she would see that she didnt ride with anyone else and hung up. Another case in point is the up and indifference to our traffic laws. Boys are riding or brakes in no with the cold slush down our road at night lights and endangering themselves and others. Wake up parents, before it is too late and tragedy strikes. It may be your son or daughter! Concerned go-ca- rts Editor: Sidewalks in Dangerous Condition One of our revered old gentlemen in this area who trudges up and down 33rd South complained about the condition of the sidewalk. For years now, you have all noticed what a messy situation exists with the sidewalk usually submerged with dirty water, pot holes, overhanging weeds and rubbish of all kinds. If as a result of a fall and perhaps a broken leg or other serious injury, we would all feel bad. Lets do something about this now folks. Phone the county commissioners and get action. Evety move the legislature makes will center around our present tax structure. The thoughts uppermost in the minds of the legislator is to meet the needs of the state that will keep the state at a reasonable level with her sister Western States without placing too great a burden on the taxpayer, or going beyond what the tax structure can bear and balance the budget.
