A unique and effective answer has begun to operate in Salt Lake City recently. Called Meals on Wheels," the service provides a hot, nourishing, delicious meal to elderly persons who might not be able to prepare a balanced diet for themselves. Those eligible for the service are selected on the simple basis of need and feasibility of delivery without consideration of race, creed or financial status. Meals are delivered on partitioned trays, piping hot, at noon to the home of the elderly person. Those who can go to the Neighborhood Center at 156 Westminster Ave., may receive the meal for 50 cents. costs $1. She praises the service, saying the meals are delicious, on time, and almost too ' hot to eat. In addition to providing a nourishing meal, the Friendly Neighborhood Center at 156 Westminster Ave. offers an afternoon of entertainment on Thursday afternoons. Elderly persons are invited to come to lunch and spend the afternoon enjoying the games and social events of the afternoon. Training for volunteers who will visit, read, walk, or drive elderly persons is also held at the center.
