Ten Cents Per Copy As patron members of the Elementary Language - Arts Curriculum Committee of the Granite School District for the andor 1960-6years 1959-6- 0 we would like to publicly state that we heartily endorse the reading program of the Granite School District and have full confidence in those who are administering it. WE FEEL that the main reason the patrons of this district are questioning the reading program is that they have been falsely or insufficiently informed about our present program. The Language - Arts program of the Granite District includes all of the phonics that a straight phonetic program has, but it also contains much more, such as: sight vocabulary, word meanings, context clues and structural analysis all con- -, tained in very high interest material to the student. The Districts aim, as we understand it, is not just to teach your children to sound out words, but to create in each of them: (1) a real desire to read; (2) have them understand what they read; and (3)be able to express what they have read 1, ; GRANITE HIGH PRESENTS SOUTH PACIFIC Pictured here are a few of the young thespians of Granite High School who have ambitiously engaged themselves with James Michners South Pacific. A special job for the business man to think of it: lets start now and keep our windows clean and sweep the sidewalk in front of our store every day. And, do you have signs up in your store relating to events which oocured in the past? Now dont get your wife to do all the work. She is used to cleaning up the house, fixing her hair and painting her face every day. We admit there is good in a straight phonics program, but know there is much .more good in the reading program taught In the Granite District last year, and in the new program being tested this year. We want you to know that your district has been aware for many years that the teaching of LANGUAGE ARTS CURRICUreading needed to be improved LUM COMMITTEE OF THE and was doing detailed research GRANITE SCHOOL DISTRICT . EVERY PARENT should feel very proud and secure in having their children registered in the Granite District. They are getting all the phonics any other district is getting, and many other fine things in addition. We can honestly tell you that the Granite District is developing one of the finest Language Arts programs in the nation. Signed: Mrs. Louise M.
