Taylor, who has been serving with the 12th Air force in Italy the past six months, was awarded the Air Medal on the 25th of November. He is a member of a troop carrier group which was cited for outstanding performance of duty in action against the enemy in the Mediterranean theater. When Allied missions, attempting to organize effective fighting forces in Yugoslavia, Greece and Albania, called for an immediate substantial and steady flow of desperately needed supplies, this vital task was assigned to this Troop Carrier group. Overcominsurmountable obing almost stacles in accomplishing this important assignment, this group an distinguished itself through outstanding performance of duty clearly exceptional in its nature, method and in its degree of achievement. All missions had to be flown at night in unarmed and uanormoured type aircraft over unfamiliar enemy Occupied areas where hostile antiaircraft fire and night fighters were expected and frequently encountered. During the period of operations for which it was cited, the group participated in over 600 landings on crudely constructed strips converted from plowed fields, and meadows, and located in mountain valleys which were held by partisan forces. Supplies of nature such as mules and jeeps were unloaded at these airdroms, and woundd partisan personnel; Allied airmen and civilian refugees were evacuated to the Italian mainland. In nearly 3,000 missions the group delivered more than 7,000 tons of weap. ons, ammunition, food clothing, and medicine and evacuated thousands of soldiers and civiliansLieut.
