County workers throughout the state have been called in for the conference, which is considered by leaders in Utah Agriculture to be the great event of the year. Lectures on various subjects related to crop husbandry and general agriculture were given, and music furnished every evening by the Federation Band of Logan. Demonstrations in Home Economics attracted the wives of all the visiting farmers. Professor William Petersen, W. W. Owen, P. V. Cardon and a corps of Extension workers arranged this great agricultural function. The program for the four day activity, was one of the most comprehensive outlines ever made for ehcampment programs. The Experiment Station and Extension Division have, been working out experiments during the past year in potato, wheat and alfalfa culture, together with experiments with pests that seriously effect these crops. Valuable information upon this subject was given at the Encampment lectures. A number of our townspeople attended and enjoyed', the en campment week at the U. This consists of a number of huge steel mortars for the firing of pyrotechnic shells, whose black, business like muzzles have more the appearance of death dealing siege guns, than peace time entertainment devices. In the hands of amateurs they would doubtless be extremely dangerous but under the expert manipulation of men trained for the purpose and surround ed by proper bomb proofs located hundreds of feet from the audience, they became useful instruments by which the heavens are covered with thousands of beautiful colored stars, floral effects, and other pyrotechnic wizardy. Other equipment to arrive were the frames for the Naval Battle and the set piece for the Ox Team and Covered Wagon. These are to be followed by special set pieces never before con structed or fired, depicting- Joseph Smith, Brigham Young and Heber J. Grant, whose likeness will be ,. portrayed in fire pictures twenty feet high. Still other equipment is to follow for the design of the Hand Cart and Grasshopper, Pioneers, Sea-GuStage Coach, The Driving of the Golden Spike and many other beautiful pieces arranged for this ambitious undertaking. Mr. R. Williams, manager of the Intermountain Fireworks company, accompanied by Mr. Henry Kallansrud, pyrotechnic expert of the same organization, are here now to arrange and prepare the field and set pieces.. Mr. Kallansrud comes direct from staging a huge Military Spectacle in Walla Walla, Washington, July Fourth, which was widely acclaimed in the territory. Mr. Williams handled a similar event in Provo, Utah, and some idea of the magnitude of the approaching display in Logan can be gained from the statement .that the. services of both these gentlemen and two other members of their staff besides a large number of laborers will be required for the Logan affair. ' More of the descriptive details of the pageant and fireworks display are . given as follows: As each subject of the ' pageant starts at the North end of the stadium the search lights are thrown on it and it passes around part of the race; course. This however, is preceeded by the title on a large screen. After the subject passes into the dark then the set piece in fireworks at the north end comes into view. There is continuous action all the time with many beautiful colored shells, rockets, etc. Following is the outline for the pageant: Outline for Pageant dramatized by fireworks with musical arrangements of songs for Fort Douglas band, U. We 6peak with pride of the large consignment of goods being brought to the stores from the railway stations. We are tremendously interested in all of these industrial and business activities, because in every instance we realize that those who risked their money in the establishing of them, will also pay out large sums in wages to the many of our community who will be eager to obtain employment, and thus put in circulation more money in the community, which means increased prosper" ity to all. But there remains a very important, duty yet to be loyally exercised by us all, and that is to give these industries our honest, undivided support, and these business houses our patronage. Without this last mentioned effort on our part, the industries and the stores will not remain long, but will of necessity have to seek localities where the community will not lose sight of the very important fact that the exist nce-and growth of these business t, j be renA special program will ventures depend upon the local supdered at the Sacrament meeting port of the people. in the 3rd Ward Chapel, Sunday Each community must be loyal ' July 22nd at 2 p. m. to their own, and not jump from FOR SALE Gates Vocal Cord home because a new venture is made somewhere else. and Kelly Springfield Tires, at A house divided against itself can new low prices.
