Carl Crctiqifist, Smithfield, has been awarded a certificate of Merit and granted a Junior Membership ' in the Holstein-Friesia- n association of America, Brattleboro, Vermont. He was recommended for these awards by the State club leader. All privileges of the associa tion except voting have been .given to him until he is 21 years of age. The Utah Experiment Station is making special effort to find better means of drainage. Experiments at Lewiston aim to determine the efficiency and practicability of draining land by means of pumping ground water. Mr. Hollenback and Mr. Driggs examined a sample of sand from the Lewiston drainage area. They assisted in developing plans and deciding on appropriate diameters of weli points with which to make the first field pumping trials. A sample of the sand was also sent to company - headquarters in St. Paul, Minn., where it will be analyzed to determine the proper screen number of Johnson drive well points and also of the tubular well screens.
