The .American Lesion members have raked off rocks and are now ready to form several teams and are eager to meet any other team in a game. Lets use the ball park with its fine lights. Invitations are extended to the scouts and priesthood quorums to form teams for some fine contests in the near Mrs. Lorraine Allen, chairman of the South Cache unit 47 of the American Legion Auxiliary reports that poppies are being completed' by disabled veterans at the veterans hospital. These poppies will be distributed on Poppy days, May 23 and 24. The contributions for the poppies worn in honor of those who died in battle will be used by the veterans making them, and by the Legion Auxiliarys extensive work for the welfare of the wars living victims, the families of disabled veterans and the families of those who died in war. The poppies are crepe paper, replicas of the wild poppies which grew on the battle fields of both wars in France and Belgium. Making these poppies not only provides a source of income to the vets but also a means of occupational therapy. Its something to do during long hours of hospitalization and convalescence PROCLAMATION I hereby proclaim May 23 and 24 as Poppy Day in Hyrum and ask all citizens of Hyrum to give this worthy cause their support. The 45,000-to- n battlewagon mounting guns also has been assigned a peacetime task that of carrying naval reserves on training cruises. To focus attention on the current drive to enroll recruits in the naval reserve, Operation Naval Reserve will be conducted the week of May Culminating the campaign. Naval Reserve Day will be observed May 25. Special activities are planned in communities throughout the nation to aid the enrollment drive. The naval reserve, the civilian branch of the navy, is composed of both veterans and nonveterans. This ride was enjoyed by 30 riders who rode south of the dam to Jack Baxters farm then to Alton Millers farm. A weiner roast concluded the ride. A schedule of rides has been summer and planned for the those intersted are invited to join the saddle club. The next ride wil be May 18th at 2 P M. After partaking of the sacrament the song Bless This House wil be sung by Mark Carver.' Glade Larsen, a Deacon, will give a talk. La Ray Nielsen will give a vocal solo. Two talks will be given by LDS Girls, Gayle Smith' and Rula . Wright. Presentation of certificates of award will be made by Bishop Wendell Allen to the members of the Aaronic priesthood. ISRAELSEN Israelsen Osins HMi Honor A.t the annual meeting of the Utah Association of Life Underwriters held in the Newhouse hotel last week, John A. Israelsen was elected president of the association. I j Mr. Israelsen took up life insurance work the day following his resignation as postmaster of Hyrum on September 30, 1933. j A few months ago Mr. Israelsen was inducted into the Millionaire Club of the Beneficial Life Co. and won a Parker Pen and pencil set in a Christmas Production contest. He has also completed more than five years on the Company Marathon.
