Thy are listed as follows: Senior Literary Club, Miss Ruth Hendry; Junior Liter- ary, Miss Margaret Bradshaw; . Madra Club, Miss Leta Bailey;-- La Mrs. Ruth Bankhead; Villa Club, .Jaycees, Miss Galaine Wyatt; Miss Donna Wyatt; Daniel H. Wells Camp, Miss Lila Rae Clark; Peter Maughan Camp, Miss Wilma Hall; Lions Club, Miss Poppleton, and Wildlife, Miss Colleen Cooper. A ' list of the names of the queens will be posted in business places in Wells-- 1 ville and voting will start immed-- ; lately. The girl receiving' the highest number of votes will be the queen and the next two will be attendants. The Centennial Committee are Evan H. Bankhead, chairman; Charles B. Leatham, Bp. Cliff Olson, Herman Theurer, Melba .Jones, Laura Archibald with Thelma Leatham as secretary. This club met again on Monday evening and divided the City into zones and each civic club will be x Am-vet- s. Le-o- ra for one .zone. Baker were out of town guests. , Relief Societies To Give Program A very interesting program under the direction of the ward Relief Societies is planned in Hyrum Stake wards next Sunday evening at evening meeting. .. The program will portray the early history of the church and the trek of. the pioneers into Utah as it. is illustrated on the new monument erected in Emigration canyon. The title reads A Story in Granite and Bronze This is the Place. Large' photographs will illustrate the various figures in the monument and the narration of the event or person shown will be given by some member of the Relief Society. . Cora Jean Allen. ' Elsene Andersen Three Ward Gold Passes Away And Green Ball Elsene Jensen Andersen, 79, died Wednesday evening at the home of her son, Lowell Andersen, Hyrum. She was born December 18, 1867 in Sindal, Denmark and came to this country at the age of twelve. She has lived in Hyrum since that time except for a few months at Mantua. A daughter of Jens K. and Annie Marie Petersen Jensen, she was married to Ole H. Andersen on .March 7, 1885 in the 'old Salt Lake Endowment house.-- He died . February 23, 1943. She was the mother of 16 childt ' ren, nine of whom survive. ' They are Nettie Christiansen, Delos, Clinton, and Lowell Anjler-se- n of Hyrum, Mrs. Elva F. Coleman of Smithfield, Leland L; Andersen of Ogden, Rulon Andersen and Mrs. Cora Havers of Terreton, Idaho, Charles Otto Andersen Of Aberdeen, Idaho. Therq.; are 37 Tuesday A meeting for reorganization of the Red Cross in Hyrum was held February 22 in the City Hall. D. M. Reid who has done excellent work as Hyrum chairman for the past several years resigned because he expects to be absent on an extended trip for the most most part of the year. In his place was elected Frank Dusenberry. The following are the Red Cross committee in Hyrum: John Jorgensen, Stella Bradley, D. M. Reid, John A. Israelsen with Melinda Liljenquist as secretary and treasurer. A vote of thanks was given D. M. Reid whose efforts have accomplished a great deal of good for the servicemen during the war, as well as the success of the many other projects of the Red Cross. At present the local chapter has a hospital bed worth $80 which hhs been in use in five different homes over a period of 18 months. They own a wheel chair and three pair of crutches which are also in use or available for use. The chairman reported $294 balance in the bank also. It was pointed out that by hav-i- n a local organization Hyrum is' able to keep 15 of the amount subscribed in the forthcoming drive immediately available to the local committee. During the next few weeks a campaign to raise funds for the Red Cross will be undertaken with Frank Dusenberry in charge and with the following word 1st vajd, E.und La sen; 2nd ward, Jesve Cro.d'st n; ial 3rd ward, Maurice Stoker. Under the direction of the MIA the three Hyrum wards, the Hyrum Gold and Green ball will be held at the Elite Hall March 4. The music will be furnished by Gilbert Thorpe. Cooper Passes Away - ; al - s- , At a meeting of the Hyrum Cen tennial Committee on Monday night at the City offices plans were made for a celebration to be held on July 19. A county celebration will be held at Logan on the 3 and 4 of July and the State Centennial committee have invited all citizens of Utah to celebrate at Salt Lake on July 24. Hyrum for the last several years has celebrated on July 24. The Hyrum City officials will be in charge of the celebration with the Centennial committee co operating. A pageant parade dealing with the history of Hyrum will be sponsored. Various organizations in Hyrum will participate in the parade. Other features incident to a real homecoming are being planned by the committee. Giving reports at the meeting on Monday were Mayor John W. and ElJorgenson, ton Olsen, chm. of the recreation committee, Wiliam S. Bailey, chm of. the schools committee, Laneth Carlson,' chairman of the Church committee, Alonzo Savage, chairman of the parade and decora- tion committee, Clifford Stauffer chairman of the 3rd ward beautification committee, and Me Rose member of the 1st ward beautification committee, and Reta Allen reporting for the 2nd ward beautification committee. Gladys E. Jensen, General Chairman conducted the meeting. Mr., Bailey reported that the school contest on Slogans essays and stories will end Friday night and that Lincoln school students have displayed enthusiasm toward the contests. Prizes will be awarded during a beautification campaign. A complete list of awards will be announced in the near future. Guy Murray Home AMM 2e Guy M. Murray, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Murray of Wellsville arrived home Friday February 21 after being released from the Navy at Alameda, Calif. He has. been in the service for the past three years and is happy to be home. He was met in Salt Lake by Billy Hoskins who accompanied him home. Jaycees Split Up The South Cache Junior Chamber of Comemrce is being broken into three parts with the organization of a Wellsville club, a Paradise club and a Hyrum club. Welsville and Paradise have already chosen new officers and are awaiting developments. Hyrum is expected to follow the same pattern. New officers in Wellsville are Lee Larsen, president; Ollie 1st vice president; LeRoy Leatham, State director; Rulon Bailey, secretary; and Guy Smith, Dean Bradshaw, Clifford Spence, Charles Cooper, Vernon Maughan, Jr. as directors. d, OPERATION Mrs Don McBride was brought home from the hospital in Logan after undergoing a major operation ten days ago. Meets The Lincoln School PTA met Wednesday evening at the school auditorium and enjoyed a program conducted by Mrs. Esta Brown, president. A pageant in keeping with the Founders Day theme was given by the Lincoln School students, the address was made by Ray Nelson of Logan. Plans were made for a party for all the Lincoln school students was discussed by the room parents present. Mrs. Brown announced that the March PTA meeting diswill include a round-tabl- e cussion by parents present, and all are urged, to attend and bring their school-chil- d problems. ' The prize for attendance was won by the Seventh grade A singular honor has been accorded Miss Ellen Vigh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo Vigh of Hyrum First ward, who was chosen to represent the Hyrum Stake Bee Hive girls in a program over KVNU on May 1.' The program is in keeping with Swarm Week, April 27 to May 3. She will give a history of pioneer songs which will be sung by a chorus from Wellsville. Poultry Project Developing The Hyrum First ward welfare project for the maintenance of a flock of laying hens is progressing acording to plans. The coops belonging to Melinda LUienquist have been arranged for and the chicks have been ordered. This is to be. a permanent project. FIRST CHILD Mr. and Mrs. Rulon Darley received word of the birth of their first grandchild, a daughter, born February 17 to Mr and Mrs. Wm. D. Gooley of Erie, Penn. Mrs. Gooley is the former Francis Maughan of Wellsville and this is their first child. 4, |
