SCHOOL SYSTEM AUTO- CRATIC Despite the fact that the children sing patriotic songs, repeat the oath of allegiance daily, and salute the flag of democracy, the American schools are working upon autocratic principles. This opinion was voiced by Howard R. Driggs, professor of education in English at the University of Utah, who has just returned from an extended trip in Iowa and Nebraska where he interested several thousand teachers in the problem of democratizing the American school system. According to Professor Driggs, there is still an autocratic element in our educational institutions. The flexible minds of the youths of America are being bossed by a school room autocrat.
