MANTI—New research shows that the brain goes through physiological changes during the teenage years that help explain seemingly unexplainable teenage behavior, says author and Messenger columnist Corrie Lynne Player, who is presenting a seminar Thursday in Manti. Player fondly calls these physiological changes "the melted brain." According to Player, research in the last five years indicates that the synapses in the frontal lobe (the area of (he brain that plays a part in impulse control, judgment, language, memory, motor function, problem solving, sexual behavior, socialization and spontaneity) become very fluid during the teen years. She says thisfluiditypermits ihe teen to separate from their parent and establish their own pattern of behavior; however, it also explains what sometimes appears to be a lack of reason in teen behavior. 'Teens tend to make choices based on emotions rather than rational decision making," Player says. "Parents need to learn how to provide a structured way for their teens to choose." "I was born and raised in Utah and am familiar with Utah culture. There has always seemed to be a controversy on whether it's acceptable to be blessed with wealth. Some Brad Knaphus think it is okay and some think it is not," Knaphus said. To complete the work, Knaphus said he decided to explore the Bible and the Book of Mormon as well as other reference books. The book includes numerous excerpts and quotes from various authors, both religious and secular. Knaphus also includes his personal trials and faith-promoting experiences. Knaphus said it took him about five years to research and write the book. "I worked evenings and weekends, using what I cail T V time' to do the research," he said.
