She was loved and admired by all those who knew her. She was born Nov. 29, 1922 in Manti to Ethelind Bracken Carpenter and Fred Spence Carpenter, the third child in the family. She attended and graduated from Manti High School. She went on to finish her education in beauty school and worked for Beth Beckstead in Sandy for two years. She moved back to Manti and purchased her own beauty shop, which was above Zions Bank. Her father remodeled his department store warehouse into a beauty shop for Enid and she worked there until she was married. She married Ned Lund Nielson on Sept. 6, 1945 in the Manti Utah Temple of the LDS Church. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions, including Primary president, Relief Society counselor and visiting teacher to mention a few. But her favorite position was serving in the Boy Scout program with her father-in-law, Niels James Alexander Nielson, a 40 year scouting veteran and recipient of the Silver Beaver. She was a second mother to her many nieces and nephews and a care-giver to her mother and father-in-law and laterto her husband. She enjoyed giving service to others and never complained. She and Ned moved from Manti to Sugarhouse in 1962 where she worked for Sears and Roebuck Co. for 20 years in the customer service department. She was a hard worker and her pleasing personality was a real asset to her employers. Everyone who knew her appreciated her keen sense of humor and quick wit. She made others feel comfortable and happy to be in her presence. She loved the outdoors and all of our Father's creations. She and Ned loved to fish and camp and they knew how to have fun together and enjoy life. She read the scriptures faithfully and was an avid reader of gospel books by general authorities. She loved going to the temple and gathering genealogy histories. Crocheting, knitting, hand crafts, making afghans, working in her vegetable garden and canning were among her favorite things to do. She was a friend to everyone and touched the lives for good of all who knew her. She will be dearly missed. We saw a pick-up with an elk in it at Wal-Mart the other day. We pulled up right beside it and heard one fellar say how he used a machine that works off satellites to track him down. Verl asked me what the guy was talkin' about and I told him I didn't know. Me and Verl don't hunt anymore since the Fish and Game said you had to wear orange. Verl liked his red shirt and said orange isn't a main color. Sun: PRINTING Dally Lunch & Dinner Specials! Kids eat free Family Night: Monday, between 5 & 8 p.m. 61 S.
