The Six County Association of Governments Community Assistance office will start taking appointments for the H.E.A.T. assistance program on Nov. 3, 2008 and will go until April, 2009. The HEAT program provides winter utility payment assistance to low-income households, targeting those who are truly vulnerable, which includes the lowest-income households with the highest heating costs, the disabled, elderly, and families with preschool-age children. Utah will receive $32 million in federal funds for the HEAT program in this fiscal year 2008-09. A family does not need to receive other public assistance to qualify for HEAT. USDA Forest Service ** Legal Notice ** The Manti-La Sal National Forest is proposing a fee increase for Christmas tree permits that are sold for the 2009 season. This proposal would increase Christmas tree permits on the MantiLa Sal National Forest from $5.00 to $10.00 per tree beginning November 2009. Christmas tree permits will remain at $5.00 per tree through the November – December 2008 season. The Forest Service had proposed to increase the fee in 2008, but decided to delay the planned increase until November of 2009. Authorized under the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act, 76% of the receipts collected from the permits will be retained locally and used to cover some of the expense of administering the Christmas tree program. The new fee will equal those charged by the Ashley, Uinta, Dixie, and Fishlake National Forests. The Manti-La Sal National Forest is requesting public comment on this proposed fee increase.
