Show Cyan Magenta Yellow Black A4 Sanpete Messenger/Gunnison Valley Edition Wednesday, December 27, 2006 CIB (Continued from A1) Ephraim City was approved for a $300,000 loan for the renovation of the city’s Carnegie Library. The city had to scramble for the funds after bids for the project came in higher than expected. The money, according to city manager Richard Anderson, was needed to “bridge the gap” between a $750,000 bond through the CIB voters approved last year and funds raised in the community. The project is now estimated at $1.4 million. The term of the loan is 25 years at 2.5 percent interest and will be serviced out of the city’s general fund. The project includes seismic upgrades, asbestos removal, restoration of the exterior, addition of an elevator, shoring up the second-level’s floor and upgrading the building’s heating and air-conditioning system. Anderson said the contractor will get the go-ahead on Dec. 14, but “the all-out effort won’t start until after the first of the year.” Gunnison City was approved for a $100,000, 50/50 grant/loan. The money will supplement funds brought in for the city’s river walk project and will be used to put in a motorized crossing across the river at 200 East. The city already approved a $200,000 loan through the CIB for the project, and a public hearing will be held on Jan. 4 for voters to approve the additional $50,000 loan. If approved, the new money will be added onto the original $200,000. The city must use the loan money before the $50,000 grant will be made available. We look forward to a wonderful 2007 with you, our friends and neighbors! Verl had Christmas music goin’ on the radio and we drove up and down the streets lookin’ at the smoke comin’ out of some chimneys and Verl mentioned how many of the old townfolks are gone. Doc McGarry, Max Cox, Kay Frischknecht, Gale Jensen, Gomer Edmunds, Paul Smith, Galen Bradley, Drew Merriam, Waldo Garbe, Kenny Tuttle, Wes Mogle, Mayo Sorensen and Bud Jensen. I asked Verl why everybody he named was a man and he said he wasn’t bein’ partial, but those are just the names that come to mind as we went by their places. Verl asked me if I thought we’d ever see the likes of those fellars again and I told him I doubted we would. I told Verl about the time I saw Max sittin’ on the endgate of his truck down by Owen’s motorcycle shop and he had a cold chisel and he was cuttin’ the end out of some 55 gallon drums. I asked him what he was doin’ and he said he was makin’ trash cans for the pageant. Well, I asked him why he just didn’t take a torch and be done with it and he said they’d appreciate it more the way he was doin’ it. I kinda’ miss old Max. Daily Lunch & Dinner Specials!
