Frischknecht. On Dec. 12, 2006 a boy was born to Jordan and Stephanie Hill of Centerfield. He weighed 7 pounds 7 ounces and will be named Lucas Jordan Hill. On Dec. 14, 2006 a girl was born to Garrick and Stephanie Willden of Monroe. She weighed 6 pounds 15 ounces and will be named Lillian Willden. EAGLE SCOUTS Tyler Gunderson Tricia Anderson and Timothy Peterson Tyler Gunderson sanpetemessenger.com GRADUATIONS Joshuwa Re’Mine Military training Joshuwa Re’Mine of Indianola completed One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at the U.S. Army Engineer School at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. on Dec. 1. OSUT is a 16-week course, which combines basic combat training and advanced individual training. He served in the 1st Engineer Brigade, 35th Engineer Battalion, C Company. Josh was trained as a 21B combat engineer, and has now been assigned to the 1457th engineering unit located in Price. Traveling to Missouri to celebrate Josh’s graduation were his grandmother, Clara Jeff and Vickie Anderson of Ephraim are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter, Tricia, to Timothy Jordyn Peterson, son of Gene and Dawn Marie Peterson of Manti. Tricia and Tim will be married Thursday, Dec. 28 in the Manti Utah Temple of the LDS Church. A reception will be held in their honor that evening from 68 p.m. at the Ephraim Social Hall, 85 South Main in Ephraim. Please join us in celebrating this happy occasion. Tim and Tricia are both 2004 graduates of Manti High School. It was during this time that their courtship began. Tricia participated on the track team and was a percussionist in the band. She has participated in volunteer/service projects in Mexico and Costa Rica. Tricia is a pharmacy technician and earned her associate’s degree at Snow College. She is currently attending BYU where she is pursuing a degree in social work. While in high school Tim was active in drama and also participated on the track team. He is a talented musician, singer and song-writer. Tim served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Indiana Indianapolis Spanish Mission. He also attended Snow College prior to his mission. He will be attending UVSC in the upcoming semester where he will be studying pre-law. Tricia is the granddaughter of Marge and the late Philip Anderson of Ephraim and of Betty and the late Bruce Johnson of Manti. Tim is the grandson of Bert and the late Ellen Dittmer of Little Hampton, Sussex, England and George and Faye Peterson of Sugar City, Idaho. He was born May 1, 1931 in Ephraim, son of Cliffton and Onda Kelson-Bailey. He remained in Ephraim, graduating from Snow High School in 1950. He married Donna R. Foote, who died in 1991. He joined the Marine Corp in 1951 and served two years before returning to Ephraim and serving as the superintendent of Ephraim City Power Department. He married JoAnn Bailey in 1992 and settled in Chester. He was a member of the LDS Church, avid sportsman and hunter, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Dick was a well-known horseman. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Bailey; children, Steve Bailey of Fairview; Mike Bailey of Green River, Wyo.: Jeff Bailey of St. George; and Cathi Holman of Santaquin; stepchildren, Gina Nichols of Chester and Jen Stime of Deer Park, Wash.; mother-inlaw Mattie Jane Olsen of Sterling; Dick J. Bailey 15 grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna; sisters, Lavee and Gayle; brother, Burke; and grandson Danny. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 12 in the Ephraim LDS Stake Center with a viewing prior to service. Interment was in the Ephraim Park Cemetery under the direction of Rasmussen Mortuary. sanpetemessenger.com Melvin Braithwaite Melvin Braithwaite, 60, passed away Dec. 13 at his home in Spring City. He was born Feb. 1, 1946 to Lynn and Latone Braithwaite in Price. Surviving are his wife, Jeanne Johansen Braithwaite of Spring City; brother, Larry Braithwaite (Tamra) of St George; sisters, Betty Sackett (Ray) of Boise, Idaho; Joyce Winesburg (Richard) of Farr West; Ruth Wingert (Russell) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Jane Sorenson (Dave) of Tremonton. Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lynda Andreasen. Melvin attended Ogden High School and he enjoyed the hobbies of pool, fishing and hunting. Cremation provided by Rasmussen Mortuary in Mt Pleasant with graveside services to be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Melvin Braithwaite Manti City Cemetery. OBITUARIES Dick Bailey Anderson-Peterson sanpetemessenger.com Tyler Gunderson, the son of David and Linda Gunderson of Manti, was presented with his Eagle Scout Award on Dec. 12. Tyler earned and completed his eagle project, which was painting and finishing the press box at the Manti High School football field, in Dec. 2005. Tyler said, “To my family, scouting and church leaders and those involved in my Eagle project, thank you for your help and encouragement.” Wednesday, December 20, 2006 From Merrill & the gang at D Land Title Leora Ann Hughes, 63, of Gunnison, passed away Dec. 13 after a long battle with cancer surrounded by her family. She was born June 14, 1943, in Flushing, Mich., to Donald Owen and Christina Marjorie MacKinnon Cromwell. She married James W. Owens in Prescott, Ariz. in 1961. They later divorced. She married Carl W. Hughes on Dec. 17, 1971, in Fullerton, Calif. Leora was a wonderful mother, grandmother and aunt. She enjoyed the outdoors very much. She liked to camp and fish and enjoyed sitting by the campfire. In her younger years she enjoyed playing softball and was in many bowling leagues. She participated in a California Women’s state bowling tournament. She also enjoyed traveling the country by car so she could enjoy the sights. One of her most favorite trips was to Branson, Mo. She loved the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and enjoyed many other trips. She collected figurines of bald eagles and humming birds. She also loved her four legged kids, Rascal and Bandit. Leora enjoyed a long career as an insurance underwriter before retiring in 1989. She loved her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a great friend to many and enjoyed her visits with her wonderful neighbor Joye. She will be loved and missed by all of us. She is survived by her husband; children, William J. “Bill” Owens, Salt Lake City; Leora Ann Hughes Christina “Tina” (Shon) Spencer, Centerfield; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; mother, Christina Marjorie MacKinnon Cromwell, Grand Junction, Colo.; brothers and sisters, Herschel (Allenna) Cromwell, Arleta, Calif.; Dale (Jean) Cromwell, Ridgecrest, Calif.; Gary (Penny) Cromwell, Fullerton, Calif.; and Marjorie (Jay) Copeland, Grand Junction, Colo. Preceded in death by her father, Donald O. Cromwell; and brother, Donald LeRoy Cromwell. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 19 at noon in the Gunnison LDS Stake Center.
