Smith specializes in municipal law. His firm is based in Salt Lake City and represents all sizes of cities throughout Utah. The lawyer charges $170 per hour, which Cox said is lower than other law firms. In addition, Smith will provide two hours of consulting for $100 a month. Also, the council approved use of the rodeo grounds for a secondary staging area for disaster response. Richard Hight, the county’s emergency management coordinator, agreed to continue to meet every third Tuesday. In other news, the council supported Cox in appointing Cliff Keller as the city’s public works director. MT. PLEASANT City hall to move to fire station By C.R. Truitt FAIRVIEW—The Fairview Fire Station will accommodate the city hall while a new building is built on Main Street. The Fairview City Council approved the move at its Nov. 21 meeting. The fire station has a good amount of unfinished space that Mayor Spencer Cox said can be finished and temporarily used to house Fairview City Hall. Fairview has some grant money set aside for the renovation of the Fire Department, but the grant calls for matching donations. Spencer MT PLEASANT—The Hospice of Intermountain Homecare’s Second Annual Holiday Memorial Service and Tree of Life will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Rasmussen Mortuary in Mt. Pleasant. The service will honor friends and loved ones who died this past year. The public is welcome to attend the memorial. Please bring a memento to place on this year’s Tree of Life. The service will include beautiful songs and inspirations, and refreshments. Hospice is making 2.5-inch round sterling silver picture ornaments for a minimum donation for $7 for two, one for the Tree of Life and one for the tree at home. City to hold Christmas party MT. PLEASANT—Mt. Pleasant City will hold its community Christmas party on Dec. 19 at 6 p.m. The party will get started with the drawing for the City Bucks promotion. Shopping sprees totaling $1,850 for 19 Mt. Pleasant businesses will be given away. Residents interested in entering the drawing may do so by spending at participating businesses. For every $5 purchase, customers will be given a ticket for the drawing. Participants do not have to be present at the drawing to win. For those who attend, door prizes will also be given away at the party The winning gingerbread house designs will also be announced at the event, and Santa will be present to take Christmas wishes from the children. The service will be held at Rasmussen Mortuary, 96 N. 100 West, Mt. Pleasant at 3 p.m. This holiday tribute is to remember and honor community members who have passed away in the last 12 months or earlier. All community members are invited to attend and honor their departed loved ones and/or participate by bringing a piece of memorabilia, ornament or picture of their loved one to hang on the Tree of Life.
