Show A4 Sanpete Messenger-Sanpete Messenger/Gunnison Valley Edition Mt. Pleasant approves change to UAMPS operating policy By Christian Probasco Staff writer MT. PLEASANT—Mt. Pleasant City is going along with a measure that may prohibit some members of Utah Associated Municpal Power Systems, of which the city is a member, from participating in certain of the organization’s proceedings. On Nov. 25, the city council approved changes to the operating agreement of UAMPS, an organization that provides electric energy on a nonprofit basis to community-owned power systems throughout the Intermountain West. Mt. Pleasant is one of 53 cities in eight states that make up the power agency. At the meeting, Mayor Chesley Christensen reported on a recent meeting of UAMPS which he attended, and from which he brought the new agreement. The new rules stipulate that “any member of UAMPS that is an adverse or potentially adverse party” not be allowed to participate or monitor UAMPS proceedings. Concerned about raccoons I am concerned about raccoons in our communities. Raccoons are wild animals, and they can be dangerous. Because they are wild animals they carry diseases that can infect people and pets. Besides the diseases that they carry, raccoons destroy property and kill pets. I don’t know what can be done about this problem, but would like some input from your readers. Bryce Hedelius Ephraim Thanks for winners of production As the likely over-proud father of Mrs. Potts in Manti High School’s production of “Beauty and the Beast,” I give thanks to all who made this production possible for our family and so many of yours. There are so many winners: the cast of outstanding students, the contributing musicians, the directors, the set builders and stage crews, the directors, the parents who laboriously built the costumes, the technicians, and of course the spectators. This is so much of what education in America is about that is positive and peoplebuilding. This was an event that clearly had positive and life-changing impact on many of the participants and those of us who were some part of the growth process. For me, just participating as a supportive father and husband and watching this unfold so positively has been a deeply moving and even a spiritual experience that will be remembered and savored for a long time to come. Thank you, Mr. Litteral and everyone involved, for a job so very well done. Michael Blair Sterling CORRECTION ... Wrong numbers for Libertarian candidate Last week, the Messenger published a chart showing that Dell Schanze, Libertarian candidate for governor, received 16 votes in Sanpete County during last month’s election Schanze actually received 323 votes, or 3.92 percent of votes cast for governor in the county. Numbers of votes by community also contained the wrong numbers. Correct precinct totals included 60 in Manti, 59 in Ephraim, 31 in Fairview, 30 in Mt. Pleasant, 26 spread in Gunnison, and 24 in Fountain Green. Custom Electric Service is offering a HOLIDAY GIVEAWAY *Purchase required Drawing Dec. 23, 2008 to ONE qualifying family!
