Show COUNTY LOCALS. I There are four schools in San Pete without teachers yet.- The mountains are again decked in their beautiful parti-colored foliage foli-age caused by the action of Jack Frost. It is rumored that a gentleman with a snug little fortune at his command has pledged himself to buy real estate and invest his surplus sur-plus in Manti. The Register hopes it is true, and that like good fortune may befall those of our other towns who need dollars to develope their natural resources. After trying the sprinkler for one half day, our road supervisor resorts to an old method of laying dust, and one that is often applied where it is least needed, i. e. by flooding the streets from an irrigation ditch. This is simple, cheap and effective as the mud puddle in front of Prest. Peterson fully testifies. Mr. Robt. Anderson, of Fountain Green, left for Michigan last Saturday Satur-day morning. Mr. A. goes to Ann Harbor to enter the famous law college. We congratulate the young man and wish every possible success in his commendable effort for a law course. San Pete will need more lawyers soon, and what better than that our local ability should fill the place. The result of the recent strike of the street ear operatives in Salt Lake is a surprise to nobody, unless it be the boys themselves.who are now at liberty to hunt a job. Ofcourse, since they were nearly all Mormons, the Liberal party are accused of doing some wire pulling to get them to discharge themselves, in order to get their room, which was considered con-sidered better than their company. However that may be, the result of discharging sober, reliable men with local interests, is a financial mistake, and the employment of incompetent or floating population, popula-tion, may be disasterous. |
