A Credit to the City. A Brief Description of the Building, A Tew Rail-road Notes, From the Pyramid A credit to f.it Pleasant, or in fact any city of iis size or even larger, is the new depot building now neaily completed. It is finished to such an extent that this week it was occupied by the company, and now station agent WebGreen holds lorlh in his new quarteis. "A good action is never thrown away," and for tlie.i etioiis in behalf of the kio Grande Western branch, the people ol lliis cily ale rewarded Willi the erection ol a structure that isanoinameut and a good advertisement to the place. - 'f here are many reasons, to, why this should be so. Foremost is the fact that Mt. Pleasant is the most rapidly growing city of San Peie, and good commodious railroad quarters are a necessity. Then the people here are prone to do the proper thing by the new road. They have suffered in the past for want of good trauspoitalioii facilities, and 111 consequence the city has had no show to make any material advancement. They ore now in dnei l communication with the outside World and will take advan-tage (f this important item and secure a proper recognition for Ml. Pleasant and her res ititccs. The company have not been alall of the endeavors ol the ciiueus of this place to give them good encouragements and inducements, and a lilting leward for these is the mag-uiticei- ii siiuctuie where people will lai.d 011 coming to this city, and where those will wan who intend taking their departure. The new depot building is a frame structure, well up off the ground, and surrounded tiv a wit'e, serviceable plat-(oiu- i. 1 uc ouildn.g itself is 70 by 30 tttt and is divined . .to I iur rooms. It l.tces e.:sl ..nd wet, being lengthwise H.ut.i and s utli. Two gables on each iide contain large half moon w the ends ol the building being hipped. The waiting room is 30 by 20 feet and contains several windows aud doors. It is neat'y finished and well equipped wilh modem conveniences lor the trav-el ng public. This room occupies the south end of the building. The offi :e is also 30 by Jo feet and is commodious and handy. Everything looknv' to the convenience and com f in ol tu-s- 111 charge has been done. The room aJjoins the watting and the baggage room Tne b gnge room, the next one north ol the ollice is 20 by 8 feet, and is perfectly atnp'e for all lequirenieiits now and lor a long time to come. The room wlntil snail receive the fieight lialhc is the noitli room in the building, and its dimensions are 30 by 20 feet. It is handy and convenient aud has two laige docis, one 011 each side. I he platfoim to the oflice.wailing.and baggage rooms is on the same level, but around the freight room is ol course on ihe same level with the .:ar beds, and slopes down to the other part of the platform. Exit and entrance doors are on both sides of the structure to all rooms, and all are well lighted, Everything is as convenient as a pock-et in a shirt, and no trouble or confu-sion can possibly arise. Unlike many depot buildings, a person does not have to hunt around in a state of for the room he desires, but a glance w.ll show him which room he "Alt. Pleasant" is a neat sign which informs the ttaveler the name ol the place. The painting is now neSily completed and is adding mateiially to .he neat and attractive appearance of the build-ing. The stereotyped amber makes way for a tar more neat and pretty col-or, a I ght bluish green, the casings are a shade or two daiker, and the fixtures and furniture have a cherry and walnut stain. NOTES, The telegraph line was completed this week and the instruments set; com-munication can now be had with all points along the road, aud we will not be in the dark any longer as to the time to expert trams. The little adobj building that has served since ihe compleciion of the road the purpi se- - of a depot, has been torn do.vn and ihe Hack will be moved up to Ihe eilsteof tticplattorm surrounding the build in;. A second s vie irack w ill he laid soon bv the one on the west side of the depot so that trains can pass. Now that the depot is about complet-ed, Mt. Pleasant can claim firslclass railroad facilities and conveniences. Possessing these there is nothing that should retard her rapid progress if the citizens will take an active interest in pushing her to the position in which she righ:ly belongs Ihe leading city and ine-- . tropolis of San Pete county. There. would be but litile more to ask in the way of Improvements il the mail . service could be chang-- d to ihe new road Here is a chance for the citizens o! She is now 19 minutes over due. Her owners say, however, she is a slow boat; and it may he possible that she was detained at Cable Station No. 10, in niid-ccea-where the African mails for America are transferred from the boats enrouie to Greenland. She was last reported Irom Ocean Station No. 6. Her electric niotots, of whi;h she has 20, are ot 10. ooo hoise-povve- r each, and are ot old pattern. This boat, as slow as she is, is a wonder compared wilh the slow craft that ploughed the ocean 50 years ago, when steam was the motive power. The only part electricity employed on steamers in those days was to light the boat, and the lamps gave a very feeble light as compared with the present sys-tem Llectric Age.
