We have received the first num-ber of the Pyramid printed at Mt. Pleasant. It is a bright six column folio and we welcome it on our ex-change list. We also welcome the Salt Lake Stock Exchange on our list. The representative of the Salt I.ake Herald was among the mer-chants of Ephraim a ihoit time ago to see what they would do in the way of having a "write up" in the Sunday Herald, similar to the one about Manti. One gentleman re-marked: 'since the Herald has writ-ten up all there is in San Pete as be-longing, directly or indirectly, to Janti, what is the.-- left to write for Kphraim?" Santa Claus will have but a meagre supply of toys left this year, as Jos. F. l)orius& Co. have nearly bought them out. Their immense stock of Tovs and Christmas goods will not be opened until a week or so later than expected on account of the building not being ready for oc-cupancy. CHURCH AND STATE Editor Register: Desiring a place in your hoped for successful paper, and having k'isure, I pen the following: There is, and wisely to, a decided shock to the sensitiveness of the freemeu of this country when any effort is made openly or covertly to amalgamate Church and State. The key stone of the arch that spans our political liberities is free-dom from dictum of prlert and ki'ii; and this is wisely so, when the country was t" be tae home of t' e oppressed, no matter what form of European oppression the pilgrim mig t to flee from. The Jew with his Sabbath ideas by Divine Command eua. lished, a-to be of as much sanctity and im-portance as the first day of the wejk established by followers of a Ci.rist their fathers had put to doath. as th : equal of the malefactors crucified there and then. Uy what right, human or divine, does the gentleman of " The Cloth and Cravat" presume in Convention assembled, a petitioi. to Congress or or the P. M. Genenl to stop U. S. Mail on Sunday, the Christian's Sabbath, and the Sabbath of Anti-quity the Jew's day, Saturday to be trodden underfoot. By what parity ot reasoning shall the mail or the Sunday paper be stopped by the edict of the combined Christains; and acquiesced in by the Sunday School Supt. P. v. General. Is there not a taint of mixing Church and State in this? Does it not say, had we the power we would make all matters religions bow to our dictum, our confession of Faith. And carrying out this dictum we would close every Art gallerv. Museum,. It has been staled bv some of the pap-ers of this section mat it was very convenient lor the business men of San Pete to have the present "lime card." We think not, in fact we have been told bv ihe leading business men of this County ihat the time table was ver in convenient anil they would preler a change. Travelers coming into our county would also prefer to be put down here before midnight, especially is this the cae with Temple visitors. There are other reasons why we would prefer a change, one is so that those traveling through the County could see us by daylight. We have 4 beauiilul vallev, and we would like everyone coming this way to see it. We hope the railroad company will ?ee this aigument, and give us a service lhat will reach Maiiii some time in day light, and leave there in daylight; in lad pass through our entire vallev in day-light, SURGEONS COMING Dts.
