They have always boon regarded as essential to the soundness of a legal document in that state, as they are in many others. The letters stand for the words locus sigeli, which mean "place of the seal," and they come down from the times when individuals usel seals with their signatures, sig-natures, in states, courts and cor-purat cor-purat ions use them now. |
