Show Latest British Land Grab. Information based on the highest authority confirms the rumor that three small islands near Pitcairrx were seized by England recently. It appears ap-pears that they were regarded by his British majesty's consul, Simons, a: Tahita, as valuable, anticipating the completion of the Panama canal. He was under the impression that sooner or later the French government might annex them, and 'so, without waiting for definite instructions from his government, gov-ernment, sent Mr. McCoy, the English resident on Pitcairn island, to take over the three islands for the British government. Later an English man-of-war, at Mr. Simon's request, went from Tahiti to the new possessions and completed certain formalities. |
