Show Whitehorse heads for region by Leo Platero The Whitehorse Raiders drought continues in Farmington, New Mexico as they lost to Navajo Prep for the second time. The Raiders seemed to be on a downward spiral as they head for Castledale, Utah, the site for the boys region tournament next week with three straight losses. Tuesday, on Senior Night, they lost to Navajo Prep, nament. With losses to Monument b-b- all then on Friday Valley and Green River, 57-4- 3, they lost to Green River, a re5 and on gion opponent, Saturday they lost to Navqjo Prep. "It is frustrating, we run our plays almost to perfection in practice and we fall apart during game day, said head coach Kenneth Joe. "We are a much better team than that, we need to get our heads on straight as we head into the region tour- - Whitehorse will probably go in the tournament as the number 3 team from the south, with Green River number 2 and Monument Valley as the number 1 team and Navajo Mountain as the fourth team. The 2A girls basketball Academic teams include two students from San Juan County: Noelle Lyman of San Juan High and Jenny Pehrson of Monticello High. Cody Webb of San Juan High is on the academic team for 2A boys All-sta- te Marion Yazzie and Faron Yazzie, son of Virginia and Thomas Yazzie. In Hie game against Green River, Devin Mitchell had 11 points, Lymondo Benn - 9, Harrison Johnson - 6, Earlson Tso - 3, and Joey and Leon Hascon with 2 points. Benn, All-sta- te all-sta- te Mitchell and Tso hit three pointers. & The 1A, 2 A and 3 A junior high state wrestling tournament was held on Saturday, February 2 in the Delta High Palladium in Delta, Utah. Monticello had five tough wrestlers enter the tournament. They include Aaron Butler, age 12, grade 6, weight, 65 lbs, with a record of 25-- 3 go- ing into the tournament; Kedric Curtis, age 13, grade 7, weight 90 lbs, with a 18-- 8 record; Colton Eldredge, age 13, grade 7, weight 93 lbs, with a 17-- 7 record; Wade Eldredge, age 13, grade 7, weight 96 lbs, with a 26-- 2 record; ' Krieg Adair, age 13, grade 8, weight 170 lbs, with a 2 record. Aaron Butler wrestled extremely tough in a n bracket and came up with a third place medal, pinning his last opponent in eight seconds. Colton Eldredge wrestled well also, winning his first match, losing his second, win- ning his third and fourth matches, and losing his fifth for a seventh place finish. Wade Eldredge wrestled dominantly after his first round bye with an impressive 10-- 3 decision in the finals, placing first. Krieg Adair wrestled well all year for the junior high team. He did not come home with a medal from this tournament, but came home with first place medals from the Page, Arizona and Wayne County tournaments. Coach Eldredge wants to thank these fine young men for their dedication and hard work. In the finals it was an exciting overtime match with the score tied 1 at the end of regulation. No points in the first overtime sent the match to double overtime where, despite all his efforts, Snyder couldn't get off the bottom and brought home a fourth place. 1-- Mark Snyder started off right at the tourney with a dominating 15-- 0 win and an 2 win in the second round, but the next rounds handed him 8-- a fall and a tough losses 1 loss in the consolation finals.
