Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday. November 21. 2001 Page 20 ROUND THE REGION Voters reject council government in Uintah Vernal The election is over and the question which got everyone to the polls has been answered no, the voters do not want to change the present form of county government to a council form of government. By a resounding margin, 70 percent of voters opposed the County Citizens Initiative Number 1 and it was defeated. The initiative, if passed, would have replaced e commission form of government with seven the three e council members and a part-tim- e manager. "This was not a vote for commissioners, it was a vote on an optional form of government, something Uintah County might look at again, said Commissioner Cloyd Harrison. In no way does this give the commissioners a green light to do whatever they like. The total Uintah County turnout for the election was about 6,000 Vernal Express voters or 45 percent of those registered to vote. - full-tim- full-tim- Public Lands Offices plan tighter security are in the works to boost security at regional Public Lands offices.
