Protests was taken under advisement inasmuch as time would not permit the Board to discuss this matter in detail. At 3 p.m. representatives from the D.N.A. and from the Native American Rights Fund from Boulder, Colorado met with the Board to discuss concerns that they had received from their clients residing in the county. Briefly, their concerns were (1) Additional high schools on the Reservation, (2) District bilingual program, (3) equal expendi- -' tures per pupil throughout the District, (4) Comparable facilities and equipment throughout the District, and (5) Better utilization of Federal funds -- - Federal funds should not supplant local or State funds. After a lengthy discussion the Board recessed for a short caucus. Attorney Robert Anderson advised the Board on all these matters and another special meeting had been called for May 6 at 3 p.m. to further discuss these matters. By Bobbi Wilcox Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Tribe is using them to attain funds without giving them Mr. Billie any assistance. has requested that the state Councilman Robert Billie was in Monticello Monday, the first of April, to talk with Governor Calvin Rampton about four issues that are of importance to the Navajo living on the Utah portion of the Navajo Reservation. The first issue discussed was the Land Exchange program set up to return state land on the reservation to the Mr. Billie asked Navajos. that the exchange take place within San Juan County to make continue funding Aneth Navajos for their manpower pro- grams. The Revenue Sharing Program of the Navajo Tribe has allocated $34,000 to the Aneth Chapter, and already part of the money has been put to use in the form of a 1968 Ford 1000 Semi-tract- or and 40 foot trailer. Also purchased was a good agricultural land available on the reservation. Second in discussion was a Road Collector System of black top highways to improve the tourism of some of the National and State Parks and Monuments inSan Juan County. This would consist of paving the road from Aneth to the ay Trading Post, and paving the road from Montezuma Creek to Red Mesa on the Utah, Arizona state line. This is important to the Aneth and Red areas as the current are roads dirt and not always passable. As a result many tourists miss the attractions of this part of the County. Mr. Billie also voiced the Mesa concern of the Utah Navajos with the state wanting to turn the Family Social Services into a Tribal responsibility as New Mexico and Arizona have. Utah Navajos feel they would suffer because the tribe is years from being able to help the Navajos the way Utah has. The Manpower program was the last issue to be brought to the attention of the governor. A problem has arisen in the manpower program, which concerns the Utah Navajos. When the state takes its head count of unemployed, it counts the unemployed Navajos on the Utah portion of The state the reservation. to does this receive funds for the manpower programs. Likewise, the Navajo Tribe also makes a head count of unemployed living on the reservation, for which they receive funds for their manpower The programs. Navajos in the Aneth area are also counted by the Tribe. Whenever funds for manpower are received in Window Rock, Ari- zona, the Tribe seems to forget about the Aneth area needing funds. As a result, the Navajos in this area feel the What do you want in your new building? International Harves6 cat. ter Altogether, $16,000 was spent on the equipment. The balance of the money will be use for Chapter improvements. Tuesday evening, April 2nd, the Aneth Lobos were in two places at the same time. As far fetched as it sounds, its true. The Lobo's had to play in the Towaoc Recreation league at Towaoc, and also had to play in a tournament at Teec Nos Pos Boarding School. So, five players went to Towaoc to play the Sands Motel of Cortez. The remainder of players went to Teec Nos Pos. The official game clock went haywire during the game at Towaoc, so the game was abbreviated and at the end of official play the Lobos had won 43 to 30, tying them for second with an 11 wins, 3 loss record. Everything went fine with the clock at Teec Nos Pos and at the end of regulation play the Lobos dropped their first tournament game to Lukachukai 78 to 76. A forfeit on the part of the San Juan Bourbon's kept the Lobos in the tournament. On Wednesday, the 3rd, Herman Redhouse put 34 points on the board as the Lobos defeated Toadalena 97 to 68.
