Ashton Harris of Blanding received word last week .that their son, Jim, who is presently in Viet Nam, had. been wounded and was in a hospital in Dong Tam. He was unable to write but found an LDS group leader who wrote what Jim dictated to his parents. He said "I don't know what the government has told you, but I . don't want you to worry. " He did not state the date of his injury or how it happened, but said he had wounds in both legs, his right arm, his shoulder and neck. He did not know whether he would stay in Vietnam or be sent to a hospital in Japan. Sunday night, at midnight, the Harris family received a phone call from Jim, who was then in a Tokyo hospital. He explained that he was hurt in a mine explosion and nearly all of his group was hit, some more seriously than he, but none were killed. He and AEC the other members of his group were sent to hunt out and destroy booby traps that are placed everywhere by the enemy and he told his parents he had seen many of his companions hurt in the past. He also told them that he was doing sas well as could be ex- pected. Jim went into the service on July 3, 1968 and left San Francisco for Vietnam on last Thanksgiving Day. His right hand is cut up pretty badly and he has been told his wounds will take a long time to heal. Several good Samaritans ' have written to his parents for him as he is unable to write.
