DeVere Halls was elected vice president and James Crowley was renamed secretary and treasurer. GUESTS At the meeting held Friday afternoon in the court house, guest speakers included officers from the state cattle and sheep organizations. Among those in attendance were Bry-anStringham, president of the Utah Woolgrowers Association; Stan Burgess, president of the Utah Cattlemens Association; Sherm Harmer, secretary and manager of the cattle association; V. Cummings, vice president of the woolgrowers group; and D. L. Taylor, Moab, area director for the cattle group. NOT MUCH LOWER Although the , BUR spokesmen said more water is pre- sently being released at the dam, they do not anticipate the lake will be substantially lowered prior to the inflow of spring runoff. It was further noted that the lake is expected to be maintained at about the same high water mark as last year. FISH GOOD The F&G group said fish planted as fingerlings last spring have grown exceptionally well with trout now being taken up to 18 inches in length and large mouth bass in the pound and a half category. Lake Powell is open to year-roun- d fishing. Evan Pehrson, commander of the San Juan County Sheriffs Jeep Patrol, was guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Monticello Chamber of Commerce held Tuesday noon at the Avalon Cafe. Commander Pehrson outlined the organization and purpose of the patrol and the missions which have been accomplished since it was started in 1961. He emphasized the purely voluntary role of the patrol in assisting the sheriff when requested, to do so and in conducting search and rescue missions. All expenses of the patrol, the commander emphasized, are borne by the Individual members and they are not reimbursed from any public tjAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArt source. NEED MEMBERS membership, Regarding Commander Pehrson said the patrol still needs qualified members and said that It was not necessary to own a vehicle. Applicants are screened, however, and must be approved by the sheriff and by the patrol members. VITAL ROLE Under a new command designation within the state, the governor may issue orders for the patrols throughout the state through the sheriff, in case of emergency. TOURIST CLINIC In other business Tuesday, the chamber discussed a possible tourism seminar to be conducted by Utah State University Extension Service and the Utah Tourist and Publicity Council. ELECTION PRECINCTS County Clerk Ada Palmer Monday read a memorandum from County Attorney F. Ben-nio- n Redd concerning the establishment of election precincts. The commission has power to establish and change such precincts and some may have to be changed since they exceed the limit of 300 voters per precinct set by state law. SWIM POOL BID At a bid opening Monday afternoon the commission approved the bid of $10,584 submitted by the Intermountain Paddock Pool Co. for installation of a new filter at the Monticello pool.
