Those losses were a result of wildfires that occurred June 18, 2002, and continuing. The Navajo Nation was also declared a major disaster area for losses due to drought. The disaster designation number is S1658. Therefore, San Juan County was also named, as it is contiguous. Farmersranchers in San Juan County can apply for an emergency loan to cover part of their actual losses and must apply by March 3, 2003. To be eligible, producers must have suffered a 30 percent loss of normal production, be able to repay the loan and other existing debt, be unable to get credit elsewhere, have ad- equate security, and must have obtained multi-percrop insurance or have signed an insurance waiver.
