No. 47 55, County Girls Make It Big In "Make It With Wool By NELL DALTON Joylynn Jones, winner of the Make A Meeting district winner of the state contest held in Salt Lake City last week. This is a first for our contest, district. brought fame and honor to San Juan County by being named Miss Jones, daughter ofMr. Mrs. Cooper Jones of modeled her Monticello, charcoal gray pant suit with red plaid vest and hat at the Hotel Utah along with 37 other contestants from high schools all over the state and several colleges. Andrea Perkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Perkins of Blanding, the district junior division winner, took fifth place in state. Andrea worked mostly alone on her project being the only girl from San Juan High School to compete. Hers was a sports outfit featuring blue pants and a plaid jacket. (See page 9.) Joylynn will compete in the national contest in Washington, D.C. next month. Fourteen girls participated in the district fashion show held at Monticello HighSchool on Saturday, December 3rd. Many prizes were awarded to the girls in recognition of their hard work and long hours. and Two important meetings will be held in the next few days concerning the County Budget. December 14, 1972 Elks Scholarships To Marcia Christensen, and Les Rogers By JANET WILCOX Youth Leadership Awards amounting to $3 50 were awarded to 6 area seniors this past week. Winning $100 awards and capturing 1st place in the annual Elks Lodge competi- tion were Marcia Christensen and Leslie Rogers of Monti- cello. Second place honors went to two Blanding seniors Susanne Nielson and Duane Lvman. each winning $50. Third place in the competion went to Diane Galbraith and Larry Campbell of Moab. Marcia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Buckley Christensen, and Leslie, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Rogers, will now compete statewide for a $300 scholarship. The state winner will be eligible for a $2,500 prize. Susanne is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Nielson, and Duane is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis M. Lyman.
