As a truck driver Bollman often drove into the city of Hue, a few miles north of Phu Bai. One day Bollman met a group of Vietnamese children, Mai was among them. Bollman sat and talked with the bashful girl for awhile. Her serious expression changed to smiles. Days later, Bollman returned to see Mai. Soon he was visiting with his little friend regularly. In June he enrolled her in a Catholic orphanage, where she could get an education. Every Sunday Bollard went to visit Hai.
