Utah Elk Hunters Increase Field Success Utah elk hunters averaged success afield during the fall seasons. These and other figures are shown in final compilations from Department of Fish and Game offices. Of the 1,315 holders of special 63 1954 elk permits authorized by the Board of Big Game Control for the recent seasons, 830 were successful in bagging their animal in the fourteen units where hunting was permitted. The success figure for 1954 compares very favorably with that of 1953 when the average for all units was 65.5. The general season, held in early October, found hunter success increasing on six of the ted units, the same on one and somewhat lower on three as compared to the 1953 hunts on those units. On the two late season hunts held, the Fish Lake and the Heaston, hunter success for 1954 1 and 1953 were respectively and Hunters apparently found more difficulty m bagging their animals on the two hunts held in November for the tt and Browns Park Three Corners units where the success figured 33 and 37.
