Several days of racing at Bull Hollow will culminate on September 4. The WORCS race is the culmination of a summer of numerous activities at the Bull Hollow raceway, between Monticello and Blanding. This year is expected to bring larger crowds and more riders than last year, including many pros. Dont miss the excitement come join in the fun, visit with the pros, have breakfast or lunch provided by K and A Chuck Wagon, and see what all of the excitement is about. Oh, and dont forget your lawn chair and take your pick of the unlimited great vantage points to view the race. WORCS prides itself in providing a venue where beginners and pros race on the same track. That includes locals who would like a chance to rub shoulders with the racing superstars and compare their lap times. The motorcycles race on Labor Day weekend, September 2, 3, and 4 and the ATVs come the following weekend, September There will be additional Labor Day activities in San Juan County, including the annual White Mesa Ute Bear Dance. ATV enthusiasts are busy preparing for the third annual San Juan Safari ATV Rendezvous, which will take place September 22 to 24. Safari were organizers pleased to learn of a recent ruling by the Bureau of Land Management to refund up to 9-1- 1. $6,000 in cost recovery charges for the Safari. In 2004, the BLM charged up to $6,000 for their work in the permitting process for the safari. Officials said the charges threatened the survival of the Safari. Preliminary work will be completed on the project this fall. As much as possible, the project will work on existing roads and trails. There will be 18 miles of pipeline and collection boxes on approximately 40 springs. Schafer said there will be some road closures during the construction phase. You wont know we have been there when we finyear-roun- 'This Week this I Monticello water project moves from planning to construction phases It has been a long, slow' process, but the project to completely rebuild the water collection system for the City of Monticello is moving forward. Were making the transition from planning to construction, said Monticello City Manager Trent Schafer, of the $4 million project. Schafer said he recently received word of approval of the project from the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Corps of Engineers, and the U.S. Forest Service. The project, which Schafer says the City expects to be complete before snow flies in 2006, will be finished in three phases. The first will replace pipeline from the water treatment plant into North Creek, and would include new spring collection and stream diversions. The second phase of the project will focus on Bankhead and Pole canyons.
