Show blanding youth killed in action 0 to our blanding correspondents we are indebted for the news that private denton B carroll a na tive of blanding was killed in action on january 9 in the southwest pacific area the report was sent to relatives in blanding from the war department part ment at washington D C and came as saddening news to his sister mrs beth carroll wright and to friends of the family amily f denton was the youngest son of james F and annie B carroll former blanding residents now living iv in in salt lake city born on october 18 1919 private carroll attended schools at blanding and was graduated from the san juan high school at the time of his enlistment he was registered at the high school for post graduate training in welding he served in texas and california before leaving for overseas duty in june 1942 denton enlisted in the army artillery in february 1942 prior to entering the army he was engaged as a mining engineer surviving besides his parents are six brothers and one sister denton was a cheerful good natured fellow and had many friends his parents and family have the sympathy of our entire community in their bereavement on sunday su nd the flag on the square was placed at half mast during the evening service at the church the photograph of private carroll was flashed on the screen and was followed by a few moments m ants of silence in his memory it is reported that a brother of denton was the first san juan county man to give his life in the last war |
