NOTES MILLER Soh Lakt Trikunt Andrei Kirilenko's onegame-ata-tim- lust inct prevents him from worrying about the Jazz's upcoming trip thinking about a showdown with the Nuggets or counting on another playoff appearance But there is one game he is already looking forward to "The eighth of Octobm Utah Jazz in Russia it's going to be exciting game" Kirlienko said Tuesday confirming reports in Moscow that the NBA will soon announce its first preseason game in Russia"' think about a thousand friends will come It will be pretty tough for me to get tickets" The Jazz have not formally agreed to the game yet but "it's something we would like to do" said vice president of basketball operations Kevin O'Connor "The NBA is looking to promote basketball without borders and we want to be a part of that But there are still some financial issues that are any being negotiated and they have to be worked out before we sign anything" The league will not announce its International schedule until this summer a spokesman for the NBA said But a Russian newspaper !west la reported that the NBA had agreed in principle to the game presumably at Moscow's Olympic arena The Jazz's likely opponent makes Kirlienko even more excited: CSKA the powerful Russian League champion that Kirilenko once played for himself "Everybody In Russia asking me which team I will play for" said Kirilenko who spent three seasons with CSKA before Joining the 112 "Maybe I'll be the referee" CSKA is "one of the three or four best teams in Europe" Kirilenko said so it should be a competitive game "I hope so If Ithe Russians aren't intimidated because it's an NBA team they should be good" The trip is early enough to allow the Jazz to resume their regular preseason schedule a week later after recovering from a 15- hour flight And if the travel seems daunting Kirilenko said it will be worth it "The guys will be happy in Moscow It's big-tim- e culture city" he said "Fun culture It's fun place This will be good" lead 8 43-- 9 The Jazz suffered a severe public relations backlash in January for their skit using a Karl Malone impersonator But the episode cost the team's Bear mascot even more According to two sources with knowledge of the incident when the NBA fined the Jazz $15000 for the skit the franchise forced the costumed mascot to pay haff of it or $7500 out °ibis own pocket The skit was the Bear's idea though it was approved by the team's front office and staff and even owner Larry Miller was consulted All OK'd the concept The Bear — the team will not release the name of the gymnast who wears the costume — phoned Malone to apologize alter his public complaints about the skit He reached Malone's wife Kay and Malone said later he accepted the apology because it was sincere lie believed the
