Show UNIDENTIFIED MAN KILLED BY ENGINE Fatal Accident - Occurs in Yards of Denver & Eio Grande Railroad. A man about 45 years of age, so far unidentified, un-identified, was run over and fatally injured in-jured on the tracks of the Denver 4fc Rio Grande railroad late last nieht by a i switching engine operating on Fifth West street between South Temple and First South streets. When the patrol wagon with Patrolmen A. S. Thomson. Oscar Brown and Hugh Carr reached the scene the man was unconscious, un-conscious, with his left leg cut completely oft' above the ankle and his right leg severed sev-ered above the knee. His skull also was fractured, tie was conveyed to the emergency emer-gency hospital, where he died about thirty minutes later. According to information obtained at the yard master's office, the switching crew last night was in charge of Conductor Con-ductor It. T. Phillips. Engineer J. W. Sorlnger and Fireman C. V. Morandi were on the engine. An employee at the yard-master's yard-master's office said that the man was lying on the tracks and that tlie engine ran uver him. This Is believed to be correct, cor-rect, judging by the position in which the ma n was found. The man was wearing overalls, a new heavy pair of shoes and a hat In which was inscribed the name "Eldridge," a hatter hat-ter of Twin Falls. Idaho. In the pockets were found a bottle of alcohol, which escaped destruction when the man was struck, a one-cent piece, a pair of new socks, an emotv check book case of the Bank of American Fork and a Salt Lake & Ogden railroad ticket, made out for Bountiful, and dated July 28. The man appeared to be of Irish extraction. ex-traction. He was about 5 feet 11 Inches in height and weighed approximately 170 pounds. He had thick black hair, blue eves and a gray moustache. 'The bodv is at the funeral parlors of O'Donnell & Co. awaiting identification. An inquest may be held today. |
