may be assured of steady and remunerative employment They made an earnest plea for the resolution but It met with opposition on time ground thai It was liable to be Interpreted as calculated to disturb the financial legislation already secured DRAFT OF PLATFORM The draft of time platform as proposed bj Senators Foraker and Fairbanks and others was then read by Mr Fora ker It Is the same document which was outlined In these dispatches on Monday morning1 but several verbal changes were suggested Objection was nuido that It was too long and ll was referred lo a subcommittee to revise and shorten If possible v FINANCIAL PLANK There was considerable discussion of the financial plank which as Itstands Is an absolute declaration for the gold standard Several modifications of this resolution were considered among them ono suggested by the Colorado delegation which met with favor among the Western members It reads as follows WHAT COLORADO PROPOSED The Republican platform Is In favor of blinetallem and upon all proper and L opportune occasions will advocate the tooperatlon of the United Slates with the leading commercial nations of the world to secure the free coinage of both gold and sliver at a fixed ratio When the recess was taken at 9 oclock a positive policy had been decided de-cided upon on most of the questions considered proper for action unon FINANCIAL PLANK The principal declaration of the financial finan-cial plank had been completed but there was sllll doubt as to whether any reference would bo made to silver with the Indications favorable to a slight
