More Recruits Needed, Is Word From Registration Quarters. I CANNOT see the boys going out to fight the country's battle without feeling the impulse to go too. That is the reason I have enlisted in the Student Nurse reserve." The statement was made by Mrs. Thel-ma Thel-ma Bruce, of ;0S South Second West street, as she handed over her signed application for enrollment in the reserve to Secretary Mrs. Frances K. Thomassen Thomas-sen at enlistment headquarters yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Bruce's husband, lvobert Bruce, is a sergeant in Company K. Twentieth infantry, now stationed at Camp Funston. They were married about ten month ago while Sergeant Bruce was stationed at Fort Douglas. "I iove to wait on the sick, and the fact that my husband's being in the service bars me from overseas duty makes not the slightest difference. I want to serve- the country in some way. This is the way 1 have chosen." Eight recruits enlisted for the nurses' reserve yesterday. The number is not satisfactory to the executives in charge of the campaign. They say Salt Lake county should be enrolling a score or more every day. There is still a noticeable notice-able dearth of college women among the applicants, and while the secretary ha provided information to more than twenty school teachers, most of whom are under contract with local city schools, none have signed enlistment cards. It is probable prob-able that a drive will l- launched in a few days to brirg about t he enlistment of a number of high school and college graduates. Those who enrolled yesterday are : Mamie Jones, 707 South SLxth La.t street; Ruby Naegle, Third avenue: P'.ilza- beth Boyrs, Midgley apartments; Hazl Fowler, 967 Washington street; Blanche Wallace, 4.3 Coatsvilie avenue ; Krvene Wallace. 4 29 Coatsville avenue; ThUma Bruce, .r08 South Second West Ftreet; Joy Grover Auerbach. 67 First avenue. |
