Show -- 4EL-T- W Silt Late Tr&aae Tectday May 11 1S37 — Thousands Attend Crusade By South Dakota Evangelist By Anne Palmer Tribune Staff Writer He has the power and appeal to move thousands of Utahns to their feet unabashedly joining him in gospel song smiling and waving their arms above their heads in praise Aboout 3500 of them came to the Special Events Center Monday night to join South Dakota Evangelist Lowell Lundstrom’s Crusade Utah Many were there Sunday and most will be there Tuesday night too The manager of the arena was skeptical about The Rev Lundstrom’s ability to draw such a crowd for eight consecutive nights — even if the events are free “Eight nights might be considered unusual” he explained “but every night is differ- ent” Monday night's Christian rally began with members of the audience greeting one another shaking hands and saying “You’re going to be glad you came tonight” Dozens of ferns and potted flowers surrounded the fiberglass lectum Synthesized music accompanied Kevin Shorrey and the Lundstrom Stringers who opened the Christian rally with “There is power in the blood” “They may call us holy rollers and that may be true but if they knew what we were rolling about then they’d be rolling too!” shouted the lead male vocalist The crowd roared its approval The theme of Monday’s gathering was “The Secrets of Happiness and Success” and as the Rev Lundstsrom explained “Happiness is not found in things Things crowd in you” He illustrated his point by noting most people’s symbols of material wealth eventually pile up in the garage — their worth diminishing as the owners seek new “things” “Other people think happiness is found in places but if you’re miserable here you’ll be miserable there Area Deaths ABBOTT Lois Soft Lcfce City MOV 9 '987 ALLRED Russ the Rev Lundstrom maintained “fall in love with God” He told followers the human soul has a hunger that only God can fulfill and which can only be dimished when one accepts His son as savior Crusade Treasurer John Schafer said the Lundstrom organization “wants to be as upfront and honest as possible” about its finances and told the audience J1 17000 had been pledged by local residents for the Utah Crusade He said all but $12000 of that had been collected by 7 pm Monday Funeral Services Set for Today For Attorney Andrew Hurley Friends may call at the church Spring Lane in Holladay one hour
