The commission voted 6 to 3 auainst repeal and an election was ordered. Save Our Children started a news campaign charging that the law was immoral and ungodly. The group said the law would allow homosexuals to teach m private schools and flaunt their lifestyles. If such a male teacher were to show up in the classroom wearing a dress, behavior could not even be . that reprimanded, the group charged. Homosexuals argued that repeal of the law posed throat to all minorities and broadcast television ads showing the U.S. Constitution being tom up. The campaign peaked in the past week. Miami newspapers were filled with more than eight full pages of advertising on Monduy, and bannered the story across the top of page one. The issue catapulted Miss Bryant into the center of a nationwide controversy. At one point, sponsors of television series said the issue had caused them to decide against using her in a starring role.
