Halversen, 3D years oi age, narrowly escaped death last night when she was struck by an uutomobtk driven by W. W. Winery, Ity Kast 'I'iiir-teonlii 'I'iiir-teonlii South street. The machine passed over her, but the wheels missed her body. The accident occurred at Ninth South and Ninth Kast streets. Miss Halversen and Miss 1 ,ula Uuerden, both of whom reside at Si 1 McCicllan avenue, ran in front of the limcry im.chino and a street car, bo Hi o which wero traveling east on Ninth South street. They were trying try-ing to catch a northbound Ninth 12ast street car. As the two women dashed in front of the oncoming automobile. Miss "Haiversen attempted to pass the machine and street car. Miss Uuerden grasped her companion's com-panion's arm to stop her. Before M iss Halversen could return to the curbing, the automobile struck her, knocking her unconscious to the pavement. Mrs. Josephine Farrell, U3rt McClellan avenue, who was passing, stopped and took the girl to the emergency hospital. By the time the hospital was readied, the girl had recovered consciousness. An examination ex-amination at the hospital showed that her injuries were confined to slight lacerations lacer-ations on the face and body bruises. A second accident last night occurred at the east entrance to the capitol grounds at 7M0 o'clock, when an automobile auto-mobile driven by Kugeno Bush, years of age, struck a rope stretched over the road. In the auto were Mrs. Bush and their two children. 0 and -1 years of age. and Mrs. Mary A. Bush. 49 years of age. all of whom reside at f.19 D street. The top and windshield of the machine were torn away. Mrs. Mary Bush sustained a laceration of the neck from flying glass. It was thought the larynx was injured. 1 ler tongue also was lacerated. She was removed re-moved to the L,. D. S. hospital after receiving re-ceiving treatment at the emergency hospital. hos-pital. Mr. Bush sustained a deep cut over his eye, which required three stitches to close. Mrs. Kugene Bush received a laceration on her nose. The two -children were uninjured. With the exception of Mrs. Mary Bush, those injured in the accident were given treatment at the emergency hospital and removed to their homes. The rope which the machine struck was one of those placed across the entrance to the eapitol grounds during a concert held there last night. Traffic Officers I. Maglnness and Ernest Lesser brought the injured to the hospital. |
