Show M ROOSEVELT T0C01T0U1 Petition Is Signed by More Than Two Hundred Republican Re-publican Women. A petition to Colonel Theodore Roosevelt, Roose-velt, asking him to come to Utah and take the stump for tho Republican party in general, was signed by more than 200 women who attended the Republican Women's Wo-men's luncheon at the Hotel Utah yesterday yester-day afternoon. The petition, signed by the Republican Women's state committee, commit-tee, was- forwarded by telegraph to Colonel Roosevelt last night and the petition, peti-tion, with all the signatures, will be sent to him by mail. The petition, while not admitting that the political situation is hopeless in Utah for the Republican party, declared that any doubt that might exist would be eradicated if the colonel would come to the state and tell the people his views of the fitness of Governor Hughes for the presidency. The luncheon was the first of a series of social functions to be given under the auspices of the Republican Women's state committee and the Women's Republican club. While the meeting was political in nature, outside of the talks politics faded into the background and the gathering was turned into a sort of a get-acquainted a ffalr. Tiie idea of the meetings is to get the Republican women together and get them to working along the same lines for the election of the Republican tickets, county, state and national. Feed America First" was unanimously unani-mously adopted by the women at the luncheon as the slogan of the Republican women of Utah during the campaign. The slogan was presented by Mrs. C. H. McMahon and met with such a favorable reception that when presented for adoption adop-tion it was accepted without a dissenting dissent-ing vote. Mrs. Margaret Zane Cherdron served as toastmistress. On account of the illness of Mrs. Reed Smoot and Mrs. Annie Welis Cannon, ft was necessary to change the programme slightly, Mrs. C. H. McMahon, instead of Mrs. Smoot, talking on the child labor act. The other speakers and their subjects were: Mrs. George Sutherland, Suther-land, "Wilson Has Not Kept Us Out of War"; Mrs. Nephl U Morris, "Observations "Observa-tions of a Candidate's Wife"; Mrs. Jeanette A. Hyde also gave a talk Wli issues of the campaign of special interest inter-est to women. |
